Im kind of in a love/hate relationship with my Warwick Corvette STD 6 right now. Some days I love the feel and way it plays other days it just feels like Im fighting it to get up and down the neck quickly. I dont really understand. I think I may need to take it somewhere and get some new strings and have it setup. The strings still feel very rough.

Hi guys, I have a question.

I am a Geddy Jazz guy, but I have saved all summer to get a new 5 string. I need some help.. I have always, always loved the Thumb 5er body shape, but Im scared, seeing I cant play one first as GC doesnt have any, that the neck wont be for me.

Its a 98, IIRC, so its got the old neck. Now, the 08 Vette neck I played at GC felt like a baseball bat, and had almost a rectangle shaped neck, like holding a 2x4..

Will this older, wenge neck have the same feel? Or will I feel natural on it after playing my Geddy for a few years?

Thanks!

Wenge necks were thinner than the ovangkol necks. I've never had any issues whatsoever with playing a Warwick neck. I really don't see where people come up with the term "baseball bat." I guess it's just personal preference. IME the wenge necks are a bit thinner, so they should be more comfortable to you. I have a Warwick Corvette with an ovangkol neck, and it is just as thin as anything else. I don't think it is too thick at all (Then again, my other bass is a 6 string ;)). I'd suggest going out and playing some if you can. There's nothing that can compare to the tone of the thumb.

The wenge necks are C shaped, and the ovangkol necks are U shaped.

I also had a question? Is there a way to look up what year your Warwick is based on the serial number or anything? I bought it supposedly brand new from bass central this year I just wanna make sure I got an 09 and not one of the other neck profiles.

The last two digits of the serial number indicate year.

For example: E4734734 09 would be 2009.

^ I made that serial number up just as an example.

My Corvette 6 neck is rather C shaped then U. I dont know if that is the newer profile or the older "baseball bat" one ppl are reffering to. I dont have any issues playing it other then sometimes the neck seems to hard to get up and down. i just have to fight the bass it seems. My MTD is much smoother and faster feeling.

Yeah, I don't have any issues at all playing my Corvette. I just heard people saying the old shape was a C while the new shape was a U so I passed it along. I like the feeling of having a substantial neck, I don't know why.

Thanks Ryan! I'd also like to let everyone know that you must post of pic of your Wick here in the thread before you'll get a member number. Here's how it works:

Step 1 - Post up a pic of your Wick

Step 2 - PM me requesting membership.(including a post # helps a lot)
