MadAnthony, What model of Hipshot Extenders are used on Warwicks? I'd love to do the same to my E string for songs in Drop D that I don't feel like playing in standard.

Is it common to get wear marks on the body where you rest your thumb on Thumb basses? I haven't had my bass too long, but it appears that I am getting wear marks near where I rest my thumb on the pick-ups when I play finger style.

I get the same on my bubinga 'vette. Just apply a little bit of warwick wax over the area to clean up the look a bit, I found it does not last for long however.

you can ligthly sand it and use some lemon oil and then re-wax and the mark will be gone

Quick Pick-up question...

I have a 2000 FNA with the Musicman style pickup. I recently heard a demo where the guy was playing the 2010 Corvette NT LTD with the MEC twin jazz pickups.

I love the sound of those pickups would it be possible to put those pickups in my FNA with our any modifications? The dimensions are similar to to the Musicman pickup. I would have an expert install the pickup. any ideas guys?

according to Invalid Link Removed these pick ups are active (thus the golden lettering on them). The pick ups on your FNA are passive. so there will be some modifications that need to be made to get these active pick ups the power they need. I am not an expert on electronics so I can not tell you " well get a wire from here and put it there" or anything like that. This is something that if you get the wiring schematics and show it to your luthier they can tell you excactly what they need to make them work.

Also both the MM and the J pick up on the FNA are passive.

#217 checking in here... ...got a Q for you guys. I know this is gonna sound odd to all of you - but I've had my Wick for three years now, and I've never had all of the strings off at the same time - never had a call to, don't have problems and I change my strings one at a time.
But over the weekend, I took off all the strings to clean up the neck. I found that the nut was not attached ... ?? Is it supposed to be or is it supposed to be floating? If no, how do I go about re-attaching it?

Again - pls don't flame me for asking a stupid question - just never had all the strings off at one time...

What a Horror Story! I admire your attitude. Just goet it the way you want it, and move on!

I just rec'd a '96 'Vette Standard with Active EMG's yesterday. I was a little Peeved that the Wenge Boards were on the Dry Side, but a lil Lemon Oil pretty much fixed that problem. Mines Bubuinga as well. Kinda Heavy, but sounds Great! I'll get some pics up tonight.

I just recently acquired this '96 Corvette Std 4. I was excited as could be when it finally arrived three weeks after I had paid for it thanks to a lazy seller who shall remain nameless, you know who you are . That excitement was short lived because it was a bit of a mess when I got it . The previous owner had installed EMG's for awhile but put the stock passive MEC p'ups back in before he sold it. Long story short, the tone pot was a stacked pot used in the active 'vettes and didn't have a capacitor wired in anywhere so it did nothing but fill the hole in the body. The volume pot was the wrong value and had cold solder joints all over. The only pot that was correct was the blend and it was wired in backwards. It looked like somebody let a monkey with a soldering iron loose on this thing. I ordered up the necessary parts, found a decent set of used Bartolinis, and rewired the whole thing and this is the result. I went with the same value cap that Warwick uses and it seems to roll highs off nicely throughout the travel of the pot. Being a '96 model it has a three piece wenge neck and wenge fingerboard. I absolutely love it. I used to have a red ash vette but didn't like the fat ovangkol neck or the tone. The bubinga snarls nicely and the wenge gives it so much warmth. I really dig this bass , it has become my number one very quickly . Sorry for the crappy pic, my wife has the camera with her and all I have is my Blackberry at the moment.

You may have to do some light routing to the pickup cavity to accomodate the side screws for the MEC TJ. The TJ is thinner than the MM style pickup so it might squeeze in the existing routing. I did this in reverse recently (went from a TJ active pickup in my 'Vette to a Nordstrand MM pickup) and had to widen the pickup cavity by about 1/2 inch to accommodate the Nordstrand MM pickup. Unfortunately I don't have the TJ anymore, otherwise I would take a measurement to see how the two actually compare.

Trujo already covered the wiring issues pretty well... the pickup will need to be hooked to your battery and as he said, talking to a luthier would be your best bet for that.
