I'm back in after scoring this vintage beauty:

Its a 1990 Streamer Stage I 5 string. Brass nut, bartolini pickups, lots of wenge in the neck, surface mount cavity cover and a killer slim neck. The real deal old style warwick features. Plays like butter and feels great.

The sound surprises me, its not at all like a Spector, closer to a Ken Smith than a Spector to my ears. Really growly down low. Fat Beams were a little too aggressive on here so I put on some TI superalloys, which seem great for this bass so far.

What strings do you other SSI guys use?

Lovely score, pickles! I love the way vintage Stage I:s look with the wide wenge laminations in the neck, and fretmarkers!

Nice SSI! The oldies are goodies! As for strings, I prefer DR Sunbeams nickel strings on my SSI. Smooth and vintage-sounding - very musical!

Not a big fan of the Vampyre's. How much did you pay for it?

I never liked the vampyre either. But this one is bigger than the average. Bigger body, heavy, long neck and the standard factory tuning f#,B,E,A

Right now I have Ernie Ball Super Slinky Hybrids, and I love them. I was using D'Adario XL Super Steels, but I couldn't the fret buzz to go away when I was finger tapping. I love the growl the XL's gave the low end, but Im happy all around with the Hybrids

Lex, if you don't stop showing those all-white Streamers you're going to make a grown man cry. When I dream I see one of those as a 4 string with the reverse P/J setup.
