Ever since the 1st episode, I wondered about the origin of a race of sentient robots. They're not biological so they couldn't have evolved. But a planet wide civilization of robots must have come from somewhere.

I assumed that the writers of the Orville were just going to leave it as an unsolved mystery and never speak of it.

I assumed wrong. Now we know where they came from. Plus a whole lot more about them.

Captain Mercer is probably wishing he hadn't peeked inside that particular box.

I'm a Family Guy fan, but I was skeptical of this show when it first started however it has really grown on me fast.

I don't have cable TV and the antenna I use for local channels doesn't work for fox. My Apple TV has a fox "channel" but they don't show all the episodes and don't have the most recent one. I don't really have a point. I'm bored.

Seth has made references to 20th Century music & of course included a Billy Joel track.
I wonder how it would go if I made a Sci-Fi show & dropped Motörhead & Black Sabbath references, LOL!

Yes--some peril!
There were some touches that reminded me of Doctor Who in addition to some classic Star Trek and bits from the later series as well.
(So for example some may think of the Borg, but given the way some of the shots were famed & some of the action was staged it looked more like a Cyberman invasion. But hey--why can't there be references to both?)

Advanced alien civilization comes to Earth to wipe out humanity is probably the most common plot in all science fiction. A small part of me wants to be disappointed that Seth is using it, but then again, how can the Orville not go there.

Plus, I was really impressed with part 1. Very well written and smartly executed. I've got ants in my pants waiting for part 2.

The BSG fandom is claiming Seth is either ripping off or having an homage to Cylons.

Def a ripoff. But I thought it was supposed to be a more comical approach. The last 2 episodes were pretty dramatic and almost 'Borg' like without the assimilation aspect but changed to genocide. I like the show though.

Side note: Story about the woman who loves the robot is dumb.

I haven't seen all the episodes but the Star Trek homage/ripping off is blatant. And he knows it, and he knows Star Trek fans who watch know it. I'm not mad at it. It's a mostly good show. As far as Star Trek on tv it's probably the best I can hope for and it's not even Star Trek.

It's been discussed elsewhere, but yeah--most of the speech patterns on ST ( all of them), tend to be a bit "formal"--something that doesn't happen in reality.

Isaac’s sudden change in behavior in Part 2 bothered me at first but I’m OK with how it played out. Overall those two episodes were very very good. They covered a *lot* of ground in about 90 minutes of actual story.
