The Orville

Lately, I’ve REALLY been triggered by big budget scifi shows.
The first episode of the latest season of the Boys, for example.
After watching that, I just said “I’m done “.
I tried to watch the first episode of obiwan, bored to absolute tears. (Full disclosure, have been pretty much with most of that franchise for decades.)
Star trek SNW isnt really registering with me, although I have watched each episode. (I did like Discovery and Picard for the characters, and some of the plots.)
And the opening 10 minutes of Orville s3 ep1 just made me want to blow up the tv. The rest of the episode and ep 2 were just :poop:.
I can’t even sit through any Marvel movies anymore. I’m “multiversed out”.
Maybe the fact that I’m watching on a 77” Sony tv and 5 speaker surround system is contributing to the overkill factor….…..but I’m mostly just over what’s being produced as scifi in Hollywood now. It just seems like it’s all about fighting, either one on one or ginormous fleets of opposing starships. Ugh.

.
Well, I enjoyed the Season 3 finale, even though it
didn't have any "outer space-shoot 'em up" action
and the
wedding & reception were kinda sappy sometimes.
It certainly had the usual great special effects and some epic humor!

But, why's the FB Orville group so up in arms about the mere possibility that there might not be a season 4? Just because there's been no straightforward announcement of another season they think they gotta have an uprising and send egg salad sandwiches to Hulu/Disney executives?!?!? Sheesh! What pessimism!

Don't know if you're interested, but there's a fair amount of sci-fi short stories on YouTube. Talented folk with fresh ideas out there.

DUST (YouTube channel) is a collection of nothing but sci-fi short stories if you wanna start there.

And if you've already done all of that, well...I got nuthin' :)

Wife and I liked The Orville when it was on regular TV (FOX). That was 2 seasons, I think. Then it went to Hulu, which we never subscribed to.

Appreciate that info, I fallen down the youtube infinite rabbit holes many times.
I Will check out DUST.
i thought Raised by Wolves was going to be good first season, but it seems to be spiraling down.
Also really have enjoyed the Westworld reboot, up until this season. It just seems to be going for shock value now.
I think a big part of what triggers me is just the production values….i really just no longer can cut listening to bombastic background sounds. At a volume level where you can hear speech, the sounds used for the action sequences is deafening. We watched another episode of Orville, and there was (inevitably) another spaceship battle sequence, and I remember thinking the frenetic music they used sounded like it came from
Lost in Space. Over the top doesn’t begin to describe it….
Speaking of this production trend, We also watch House Hunters, and have had to turn the 2 rear speakers off because there’s always really loud (and completely asinine) music blaring so loud you can barely hear the comments.
okay, Old man rant over.:roflmao:

More time to play bass then?

You might think:D…..I’m retired for nearly a year now, so, I have all kinds of time.
But, I don’t write music, lyrics, or songs. I can’t turn a noodle into a symphony, and only really enjoy learning songs in person with real people in real time. Online interaction is problematic, since I’m technophobic (or mostly just inept) with recording interfaces.
But as far as something to do besides watching teevee, these days reading a book works really well.
Should also mention I’ve really enjoyed 2 of Apple TV scifi series, Foundation and For All Mankind.
Not bombastic, great storytelling, great production.

Season 3 got delayed, then moved to streaming, then disappeared because everyone who watched on regular TV doesn't stream stuff. I was a big fan of the first two seasons. Didn't know the third season was actually aired. And I still don't stream. Oh well...

It sucks that Disney/Hulu/Fox own the rights. Apparently they’ve decided “too expensive to make, not enough eyeballs”. But they would never pass it off to another streaming network. “It’s ours and we’re keeping it no matter what, dammit, even if we do nothing with it!!!”

It would be perfect for Apple TV. And they can afford it.

Looks like there will be a Season 4.

"Hulu’s ‘The Orville’ Season 4 is finally getting production 4 years after Season 3 debuted (in June 2022). Seth MacFarlane, the protagonist and creator of the show, told the Hollywood Reporter in March this year that “Season four is written.” 4 months later, we can tell you that the fourth season will be filmed between October 19 this year and April 22, 2027, in Los Angeles and Prague, Czech Republic. Showrunner/director/writer Brannon Braga is back, along with director Jon Cassar."
