When I was buying this pedal, I played it with an old, pointy-headed Charvel Jackson USA P/J into a new Traynor SB112 amp (EQ flat, tweeter off). So much fun. Crunchy.
On the HM-2w there are only two, maybe three sweet spots in the range of the Distortion control. It is nearly binary: on or off. The magic is in the Color Mix controls plus the instrument’s own controls.
HM-2w is legit for bass guitar. I was wanting one for a while. Most of my drive pedals are nuanced, amp-like, tactile. The HM-2w is otherwise. It has harmonic depth, but is basically flat and blunt sounding.
