Haven't tried too many other sets on my Raptures. Of those I have, I've liked the standard Pedulla stainless steel 5-string set the best. They seem to be balanced quite nicely, IMO, and I have not found them to lose their brightness significantly faster than others I have tried; however, unlike some people, my body chemistry does not kill strings very quickly. I think I tried some Stainless Ernie Ball Slinkys and found them pretty rough on the fingers, and not preferable to the Pedullas. Also tried some D'addario Slowounds some years ago. Michael Pedulla removed them from my bass when it was in for service and he said the bass "did not sound right" with them installed, while I found they were sort of dark and interesting. DRs might be worth a try....
As I recall, the single pickup Rapture has a low-midrange cut switch, not a boost. So, either you get the full range tone or a cut in the lower midrange. I've found that the full range tone cuts through much better in a mix and I use it almost exclusively, though the low-mid cut can work if I want a more "subby" sort of tone.
