Amber Burst MVP from 1987
Emerald Green MVP from 1992 (the camera did tricks with the color)
In the past years I had 2 Buzz's (one form 79 and one form 88), 1 more MVP form 92 and a Thunderbold from 94. Sadly all gone.
The Emerald green is my go-to 4 string at the moment.
The pups and electronics in the amber burst are less powerful as the other one. Idea is to replace it with Lane Poor pups (leftovers from the 90's) and an Aguilar OBP1. I know, blasphemy! but that would make the two basses sound less alike and would justify keeping them both

While I like the clear and natural tone of Lane Poor pickups, they generally have low output... perhaps not the best choice for "powerful" sound.

Agree that the LP pickups have a very low output and therefore want to add a booster (obp1). Just love the clarity and response of the LP pickups. Think they will work great in a MVP.

I imagine they will sound great... and much more open than the original Bartolinis. My Rapture 5 has a Q-tuner which brought out a lot more of the upper harmonics, while still retaining solid fundamentals. That said, the stock Bartolini humbucker has a certain low mid "purr" that sits nicely in a mix....

Those are beauties! There used to be a an MVP at 8th street music in Philadelphia that I played a few times on my lunch hour years ago. (Mid 80s?). Anyway, I loved the growl that Barts had. What type of electronics are in yours?

Michael has been updating the pickups and pre amps a lot over the years. The difference between the 80's and 90's electronics is huge. I do like the barts in my 91 mvp a lot.
In general Christine recomends to replace older electronics with a current set.. in the end that is what I want to do but, due to the price tag, I will see what the stuff I have can do. Hence the LP idea.
Just seen the new Nordstrom 2B+ pre amp, which has a 15db clean boost. Looks like a good match with the LP's.

Both now have Pedulla tuned barts + pre amp. The 87 has a TRB preamp and the 91 a NTRB one. Can recomend that 91 setup any day.
So this might be the one that eventually gets the frets removed.

I have 2 Pedullas, a 1989 MVP 4 and a 2006 Pentabuzz. I am having some electronic issues with my 1989 with the TBIBT preamp (jazz and precision style pickups). This is by far my favorite bass and my issue seems centered on the bass control pot. I like to set it to slight boost, but lately, when I do it makes a thumping sound and cuts back at times (volume). I contacted Pedulla, but their electronics have changed so much since then, that they cannot help me. In fact, Bartolini no longer even makes that particular preamp. I can't really tell if it is the pot or the preamp that is acting up, and there is no way I want the more modern preamps or tone controls. I really want this to play and sound as it did. Note, some of the other pots are scratchy now as well. I am in the Washington DC area and if anyone has a suggestion as to who can help me, it would be very much appreciated.
Give the pots a good back and forth for about 40 times each...see if that helps any.
I've not only given them the "back and forth", I have also used de-oxy electronics cleaner, which is usually a temporary fix only. I think I really need a good local guitar tech, but these TBIBT preamps are complicated and fairly rare, so I am quite concerned with finding someone who can do a good job. Letting Pedulla upgrade it would be very expensive and would change the sound of my bass while also taking a very long time. I.e., lots of concerns with this approach. I definitely miss the old days where I could talk to Mike directly.
