The Pedulla Club!

I just wish I wasn't having so much trouble with wide spacing :crying:
Its forcing me to sell my other 2 wide-spaced 5ers
Wow, no kidding? Myself, if it wasn’t for Pedulla’s 19mm neck I might not even be playing a 5-string! After playing 4-strings for maybe 30 years, it was a challenge for me to find a 5-string I could live with. All the 5-string basses I tried that felt “4-string comfortable” had the strings too close together. And the ones with wider “4-string-like” spacing, the necks were so fat they felt like telephone poles. Pedulla hit the perfect balance for me with the wide 19mm spacing on a shallow (somewhat flat) low-profile neck. I. e. “4-string-like” spacing w/o the telephone pole neck.

But I guess it’s not for everyone, so it’s great that Pedulla gives us a choice!

Did you have any issues with the pickups and the new preamp? I mailed Pedulla and Christine said the pickups in my bass mightn't be compatible with the pre that I want to put in. I think I'll give it a try anyway.

Not sure which preamp you wanted to use, but the pickup harness is for sure compatible with the Bartolini NTBT preamp and a qualified tech should be able to do the job for you.

Thanks. I got a Bartolini NTBT918 from a friend who removed it from his 04 Thunderbolt (its a 4 knob, vol, pan, treble, bass and thunderguts switch) and i want to replace my older 3 knob pre in my 97 thunderbass (vol, pan, tone and thunderguts switch) so I'll give it a try.

I am suddenly in the same boat!

Except I don't have a friend with the 4 knob setup like you do. I will start a search so I can have the same setup as my PentaBuzz.

Thanks guys! I am definitely digging it. I'm going to hang with the low B for a while but I may end up having it set up for a high C, the same way my NS electric bass cello was set up. I've never really felt a need to go that low, though I've been having fun with it.

This one was built in '09, I believe, and has the narrower spacing, which is actually alright for my hands, it's pretty similar to my Jazz.

The seller indicated that it still has the original strings on it so I'll probably hit up Jason at BSO for a new set. I'm debating on whether or not to put flats on it or stick with Pedullas. Any thoughts from the collective? I prefer nickle for rounds, and I'm currently digging the set of DR Legends flats I have on my Jazz.

DR Black Beauties sound incredible on a Pedulla.

Do you mean the neck width is similar to your jazz or the string spacing is similar? If the string spacing is similar to a 4-string jazz, then it's the 19mm spacing.

Ah, then I guess the string spacing is narrower than my Jazz, but with the wider neck it feels more like my Jazz? Lol...

I did like the BBs on my Jazz sound-wise but I wasn't sold on their feel. Since I gig with an alt-country band I've gotten really used to the feel flats, but my go-to strings before that were DR Sunbeams. I love their warm nickle tone.
