The Pedulla Club!

So does that mean you like them :)
Also why did you put that pre have you tried others ?
Tommy

I do like the Nordy + Audere combo because it gives me something quite different from the 'Pedulla tone'. Since I play on the aggressive side, this definitely gives me some more teeth :bassist:
Usually I play just the neck pickup and roll back on the treble or there is just too much top end. Another thing about this combo (at least on this bass, maybe others have a different opinion), is that Ernie Ball Slinkies (45's) sound horrible. I put on a set of Carvin nickel 40's and the difference was night and day (I'll use EB slinkies, 40's and have been happy with them on my stock t-bolt).

So far my favorite pickup/preamp replacement has been using Delano HE soaps with an Audere pre - very, very growly in the mids, a little less in the bottom than the BigSpilts, but I can help compensate if I need to with the active pre. The top end isn't as hyped on the Delanos and it really lets those rich mids sing! The strings for this bass: Ernie Ball Cobalts - freakin' amazing! I've also used DR Lowriders which sounded great as well.

As far as other preamps, I really haven't had much of a desire to try anything other than the Audere (ok, maybe a Mike Pope Flexcore) - the Audere really doesn't color the sound and the EQ points are pretty much right where I want them).

I've also used Bart classics, which were very nice (much more open than the stock Barts in my t-bolt, plus by adding the DTDP switch it gave me the option to switch between Series/Single/Parallel).

And finally, I installed SGD pickups in my Thunderbass, but even though they sound nice, I don't reach for that bass too often (I finally found a string that worked better with these pickups: DR Highbeams) - I have also just ordered replacements from Kent Armstrong (custom).

Wow Delano HE, never thought to look at them, now you got me thinking,I went with the Big Splits, because i have a 69' Jazz all original that just kick's ass, I love the sound, but I solo a lot so I need the 24 frets, and I like the low B, so that's why the Pedulla, is played most of the time, I wanted that Jazz bass vibe, I've had basses with coil split options and pre's and I found that I always, just ended up searching for a sound,to many good options, but when I pick up the old Fenders, it's plug in and play.I did leave my option open by just trying the bass passive for now, I'm not changing the knob layout,so if I decide later to put a pre in I can.
I will look at those Delano's for other options...thanks

so i found a used pedulla mvp4 signature for what I thought was a GREAT price, last night browsing craigslist. i emailed seller and told him i was interested and wanted to see it. this morning was crazy so i didn't get a chance to check email till earlier this afternoon. first email he sent this morning he said we can meet tomorrow then....another email was sent 4 hours later saying its sold :crying:

oh well!! it was pretty much a sporadic thing and honestly i had not planned on owning a pedulla, but knew they were a sweet instrument, but i figured it was a sweet deal. Someone PLEASE tell me otherwise or i'll kick myself this whole week.... or till i'm over it :hiding:

oh btw, selling price was $550 case and all :ninja:
i wonder if anyone on TB scored it??

just acquired a pedulla rapture 5er.
never played one but i hear they are one of the better active jazzes.
your thoughts on these basses?
tell me how wonderful they are:p
Splendidly, voluminously wonderful IMO. Great neck, ergonomics, sound. My Rapture J-2000-5 is my favorite overall bass in 28 years of playing.

Post pix when you can!

Finally got my first Pedulla! Picked up a nice 1997 Thunderbass last week. Cocobolo top and 17.5mm string spacing. I did originally want want 19mm though.
It has the older 3 knob layout (vol, pan, tone) and the Thunderguts switch. Has anyone here changed their preamp to the newer preamp with the 4 knob layout? I got one from a friend recently who installed a flex core preamp in to his Thunderbolt so I was going to put his old preamp into my bass.

Yikes, not sure how this got past me, but...

Also, I have been playing A Pedulla 5, Vintage Cherry, Thunderbass for the past 13 years. Could I have a number please.
Club rules, Bob – actually the only rule we have :) - you have to post a picture of your baby before you can get a number! So as soon as you give us some eye candy - you’re in!

Cocobolo... my favorite Pedulla top.

Oh, can I get a number please? :bassist:

Yep! Had my techs do the installation maybe five or six years ago and haven't looked back. It's nice to have some extra flexibility to boost up the bottom end in particular. Boost that, and dial in some bridge pickup and you have big clean Pedulla definition without being muddy.

Did you have any issues with the pickups and the new preamp? I mailed Pedulla and Christine said the pickups in my bass mightn't be compatible with the pre that I want to put in. I think I'll give it a try anyway.
