The PRACTICE Journal

I didn't practice at my normal time yesterday, had to squeeze in about 20 minutes right before bed.
I log all of my practice time and that includes what I worked on in an app on my iPad.
I could be very wrong but I suspect that those who want to log their practice time use something similar to what I use.

another 45 minutes tonite. might do a bit more idk...
to recap i'm figuring out a drum part on bass. I spent quite awhile playing through a bunch of ideas both musical and ergonomic and the role of the instrument in terms of drum-like vs voice like. I think it could be an interesting juggling act so I'm iterating through both ideas in turn. I might be able to do this as a song and so I'm just typing about it here on the internet. don't tase me bro! haha.
anyways because i'm lazy and also curious and impenitent i've been doing this little exercise on a fretless. I really like this guitar but i'm not sure it's appropriate for this, I must try it with my fretted, probably with a mute and see if that's not more directly groovy. otoh the double stops on tapewounds can be glorious and I can still get thump.
anyways it's good exercise I get to think in terms of groove and harmony and explore the interior of a song.

for the folks who are I guess asking what is happening in this threak this is just a place to discuss your practice in realtime. it's meant to be a communal journal, I was surprised to find there wasn't already one extant. it's not me publicizing my private journal it's me sharing what i'm practicing and how and why. I presume your apps have sharing features. feel free to try them out here.
what this thread is NOT about is what you intend to practice it's about what you ARE practicing. I think that's pretty straightforward.

I'm doing a lot of right hand finger plucking practice. Trying to get a nice even consistency in each pluck. I use a RMS/Peak Level meter to visually see how hard or soft I'm plucking. Another routine I've been doing is seeing how well each pluck on a string lines up to a beat. I've recorded a click track at 140bpm. With the click track, I record a bass track playing a simple one note line. I can see how well the transient lines up with each click. I can practice playing in front and behind the click as well.

under the weather yesterday, feeling much better today and starting to really sing through the rhythm. i've done a bit of singing off of guitar but not like drums or bass so it's a different deal for me and starting to bear fruit.

I have never kept a practice journal, not for guitar and not for bass.
I have read countless of times people suggesting to keep a journal, but I don't have any use for it. I think a journal is useful only if you periodically go back and review what you wrote, drawing statistics or analysing your progression. It sounds very "scientific" but I don't see the real usefulness of that.
Already tried that. But quickly i forgot to fill in. The only kind of journal that works is my transcription one. Since i've started to transcribe, years ago, i've written tabs and printed it on paper to keep it as a book. I've made the same with tunes chord charts.
Then 2 years ago i switched to real music notation sheets, and now i write all (transcriptions and compositions) in Musescore and print it after.

with guitar I never did any of that but I was a very different player 30 years ago.
with bass I have a clearer idea of what i'd like to get out of the instrument so it's easier to formulate exercises and practical ideas that I can pursue while I learn or write tunes, record etc. at a certain point the projects will be their own journal.
