The R-Bass Club

I used to own an R-bass and traded it (like a moron), but I spkoe to Ray today about building one here in the near future.
Here is my old one..................(Man! I am a moron!):

I've owned four or five over the years. I am currently down to two. Neither is going anywhere!

I have two single cutaways now, one of which has an alder body. That one is the desert island bass. It is lightweight and the bass sings anything I can play very well!

I'll post some pictures as soon as I get familiar with the camera I just bought myself for my wife's birthday!?!?

This bass was originally Adrian Garcia's for good reason. This bass is it in my opinion. I've kept it over many Fodera's and other great basses.

ebony top
alder body
chestnut tone block
five piece maple neck
birdseye fingerboard
bartolini jazz's with birdseye covers
bartolini 3 band bre
35 scale

I promised this bass to Adrian if I ever sold it, I wish he was still here to give it back to him. RIP

What's up fellows? just found this club.

Here's my 2002 bolt-on single cutaway 4 stringer.
A lot of mod's:
The clear pickguard is my design cut by CNC.
The bass now sports an Audere pre and a pair of Nordstrand NJ4SE under wood covers that I (!) made.
Far from being mint this bass has some mojo, feels very smooth and play like butter.
Check it out:

Hey guys.
I got a nice R-Bass singlecut a couple of months ago. I needed money and traded a Ken Smith BSR5GN plus a lot of cash for it. At first I tought I was gonna miss the Smith but man, I was wrong! :D
It looks awesome in person, this is one of the best basses I've owned and it's not going anywhere (and that means a lot coming from me, I'm a gear whore :p). White Mahogany body, Flamed Koa Top, Maple neck and Birdseye Maple board, Nordstrand DC and Aguilar OBP3 preamp. This bass is super versatile, low, low action and zero fret buzz, amazing slap and finger-style sounds. The B string is one of the bests I've heard.. I'm really happy!
I liked it so much that Ray is building me a new one: Ash body, Brazilian burl Walnut top, Maple neck, Birdseye Maple board, Nordstrand Fastacks (with wood covers) and a Demeter preamp. Can't wait!
Ray is making a new Jazz Bass line and he was nice enough to let me try one for a few days... All I can say is wow! This guy really knows what he's doing. The Jazz bass had an Ash body, Maple neck and board, Nordstrand Jazz pickups and 2 band preamp. I'm gonna be ordering one next year when I save enough money.
Ray is a great guy to deal with and his basses are not only up there with the big brands, they're also 1/2-1/3 of the price!!!
Now some pics!!!

Disclaimer: I'm in no way affiliated with Ray or R-Basses, I'm just a very, VERY satisfied customer :D

The bass on top is the one that Ray lent me (his personal bass). Can you say Marcus :D:

Stunning!
Seeing this beauty reminds me seeing my Rbass on your grass - just like this - a few years ago. Maybe I'll end up getting this one as well :hyper::ninja::hiding::D
Great news about the jazz line, too. I wish I could check one out. I also wish Ray had an updated web site so we could get this kind of exciting news on a regular basis.
Enjoy it... hell, enjoy them all!
Ronen

Hey Ronen.
Yeah, I miss that bass, it sure sounded great! I traded it only because I needed the low B, I'm glad it found a good home in the holy land! ;)
Man, I wish you could try the Jazz, I was truly impressed by the sound, construction, feel and the price tag!!
The Koa bass is gonna stay with me for a long time :ninja:

Hi Danny,
As I hardly play 5's anymore I'm trying to sell my Ken Bebensee 5 35" and my Curbow fretless 5. Both are amazing basses but I'm much more into J bass territory now. Once these are gone I'll probably look for a nice J 5 to cover this corner. I'm thinking Sadowsky but I definitely would love to check a J Rbass.

Regarding your top, I prefer topless :D but if you must choose I'd go with the one on the left.

Here are my two R basses currently owned. One is apparently T/Ber Fullrange's old bass and I will concur with his sentiment that it is an unbelievable player. I have never had the good fortune of playing a Fodera but if it is anywhere near as good as this bass then they are indeed something very special. A very versatile instrument with the John East preamp and Nordstrand pickups. This is my main player now when I'm not playing fretless.

The other one I just lucked into at a killer price. I think the store selling it just wanted to move it and I gave a stupid low price and they took it (tell me that don't feel great when that happens). It has Ray's own pickups with a Glockenklang pre and while I don't think it is as good an all round instrument as the other, I love it just the same. Love the Chestnut top too.

All R Basses are indeed special and I'm always on the lookout for another one but they are pretty hard to find now as probably everyone here knows. Ray really knows his craft, that's for sure.

what kind of top is that?

Ray emailed me a few pics of some completed basses before I placed my order (when I was picking the woods etc), I'm just gonna go ahead and post some of them, we need more porn in this club! :D

This one is almost finished (stock bass), I almost picked it up but I went with the Walnut top instead: Ash body, Olive top and Walnut layer, Maple neck and Birdseye board (similar to Richard Bona's bass).

Wow great Danny! I tried to buy that exact r-bass you got from the tber you got it from. Only I live in Europe and when I was in the States it was a hasle to get things sorted out with the selling party so it stayed where it was... and it was avaiable to you I gues...:S
I also saw Fclef basses had one of the newer models (new round logo) you showed in a few of your pictures... white mahogany/olive top with maple board... just love the shape of those man!!!
Could you throw us some sound clips? maybe Ray has some clips too, I'm really into his designes and people who have them tend to like these over fodera's aswell....
Uhhm come to think of it.... I wish to know what you paid for your newly placed order aswel:D...

Cheers man!
