Yeah, cartoons. They could be any level of fitness, but the chubbyness is integral to a lot of the storylines - i.e. laziness and poor health. Lotta heart attack jokes. Lotta overeating and over drinking jokes. Despite the morbidity, it makes for some funny jokes.

It's interesting to note that the men who voice both of these characters are quite fit and trim.

Not just cartoons. Archive Bunker and his wife. Ralph Kramden and his. That is just the fat part. But moreover, I think it is popular to tease the male figure in TV and let the wife "fix it".

How come on TV sitcoms men are always made to look like chubby, bumbling idiots who can't handle the tasks of day-to-day life while the women in their lives take care of everything?

It is because when a Lady is watching tv and sees that fat idiot, she turns to see her Husband and thinks about her life then realizes that she has it better than them on tv. Now she feels better about her life.
If she was watching a show with a fit, well dressed and educated man treating his woman well, she will then look at what is sitting next to her and get depressed. "Why can't I have a Man like that?" They are pleasing the Women audience.

The Wife is hot because that is how they get Men to watch.

The one I just had from a Romanian place had a lot of dill. Maybe some rosemary. The overwhelming flavor was lamb fat. Me and my dad split that and a big bowl of borscht. Now I have to remember I ate a lot of beets today otherwise tomorrow morning is gonna be terrifying.
