That song was written about famous mime Marcel Marceau's very brief career as a coal miner. On his first day on the job he refused to work and instead performed a mime for the other miners. He was immediately axed (although, I believe, for miners "picked" is the preferred slang for "fired", since fires in mines can set off coal gas explosions, and because miners use picks, not axes). He never once spoke of the incident. :wideyed:
