I put my deposit down on a FireGlo at L&M . I hope I'm still alive when it shows up !
Tempting, but it's twice the price of a new 4003. Does it really cost twice as much to make, and will it sound and play twice as good? I'll wait for the initial reviews when it comes out.
At least L&M has a solid 30-day return policy if you don't like it.
So they're pricing it based on the vintage market and not production/distribution costs?
They should be pricing on optimal profitability. Businesses with non-fungible products should not base pricing on production/distribution costs. Frankly, I'm not sure any business should.
No, I'm saying that if you think the reissue is expensive... compare it to a vintage one. I've wanted one a very long time.
But, I wasn't going to buy a vintage one.
Imo, the retooling for this bass was expensive. It's the only bass like it. All of the others basically have the same shape.

A hollow body is a bit more complex than a solid body, CB takes longer, sparkle inlays, etc. Is it worth the price tag? Maybe not in actual production cost, but They'll sell every one they make, so if you want it, I guess you just suck it up and pay it. They will probably only increase in value over time, so I can't see losing money on one.
Rickenbacker instruments seem to have a great resale value.

I thought long and hard about the decision. There are many reasons.
I AM happy being the basses I have now. So there's that. But there are many reasons why.

Sorry to hear that. I know that must've been a hard call to make. Thank you for giving me the heads up for placing my order when info was limited. I am going to hang in there even though I may unload a thing or two that I don't play anymore to ease the sticker shock.
