THE RETURN OF THE RICKENBACKER 4005

I've got a mix of flats, tapes and rounds on my basses. There is a fresh set of LaBella tapes going on it tomorrow but I will try flats on it eventually.
We are so lucky to have a wide selection to chose from.
Agreed! Let us know how the tapes sound (I'm sure they'll be great!) Flats and tapes serve hollow & semi-hollow basses so much better than rounds IMO.

@Rezdog -
Forgive me for the delay, but if you have not yet changed the strings on your 4005 let me know. Restringing any 4005 model has its own special challenges, so there are a few key tips which will help you avoid frustration. Hit me up if you'd like any info.

Greetings from further up North ;)

Before I left I did put on the Tapes and yup I like it a lot. I've put Tapes on all of my Rics at some point since the 70s. This one needed a bit more room at the nut and in the slot of the floating bridge for the E string. I cheated on it little but will have my tech properly set that up. I love fresh tapes cause they're so versatile in the studio. You can get a nice round sound when they're relatively new, a bouncing McCartney or even Graham Maby's early Joe Jackson sound and those are 3 of my fave sounds live or recorded. Or variations of those three.

Had the Mapleglo arrived I was going to do this to match my 4003S but I kinda like it.

Wow! The black pickguard, TRC and matching tapes certainly make a bold statement against that gorgeous Fireglo. The stove knobs add their own flare - well done!

Did you use painters tape to keep the R-tailpiece and bridge in place during the restring?

Thanks. No I did not use painters tape. I believe the mounting slot front area underside is magnetized?! I thought that was normal lol. I had to hand hold the E string in place since the end of the winding was a bit oversized for the slot. Thanks for the painters tape tip though it could come in handy.

Hi Everyone -
I've just posted a video about the Rickenbacker 4005V Bass launch and more. Please have a look when you get the chance.

Very Special Thanks to Talkbass members @Jeff Scott, @PaulBoyer, @Aceonbass, @Gilmourisgod, @eddybuzzard, @BassCliff, @woodyng2, @s0c9, @Thumpin', @Holdsg, @Tony In Philly, Mike Engelbrecht & @dbase for providing feedback along the way.

If you own a 4005V and have created a post about it, have a look. Your bass may be included in the video! ;)

Thanks!
Chris

Hey!

Yup that's it! And I first thought 'Mine looked just like that' not realizing that it was it
pre cosmetic surgery lol. Just like those that benefit from surgery I sometimes believe 'mine was born that way' :)

So I stand corrected. Thanks for including it!

Of course! My goal was to use pre-mod photos of as many Talkbass (& Facebook) buddies basses as possible in the video. The only reason mine is the exception is because I hadn't decided to create the video until after I'd added the gold PG & TRC and changed the knobs. I was too lazy to change it all back for the video. ;)

Who knows - if this community grows, maybe I'll do a follow up video on 4005V mods.:woot:

BTW - yours has REALLY nice grain!
