Is it bad my immediate thought was "Bummer they didn't use the extra wide skunk stripe like on the originals"?

These reissue 4005's will only have the thin skunk stripe and no finger rest - those are two differentiators to distinguish them from the originals. The good news is that these apparently have the thin necks like their predecessors.

And me... good to see they're bringing it back, sad to realize I may never afford one. At least I have my funky little Shaftesbury 3263, the bass Rickenbacker never built (basically a copy of a 330 guitar)! (There's that anniversary model in the post above, but that wasn't around when the Shaftesbury was built 50 years ago! So basically Rickenbacker copied the Shaftesbury )

I would have bought one of the recent short-scale 4005 models IF it had only come without that annoying top binding. These look very promising, but a shortscale would have taken my money straight away...

The originals have been changing hands for big money for years now, I thought it would have been a no-brainer for Rickenbacker to start production of a continuation model for several years now.

Now I need to work on them to go back to the original five-string 4000-series bass.

When I saw Led Zeppelin in '69 at the Winterland they were using those Trisonic amps with the triangle shaped cabinets, sounded great, never played that model of Ric if nothing else they look to be more ergonomic with the rounded edges. Edit: Transonic

The binding on the front never bothered me, but then, I also play acoustic guitars.

If they offer custom colors, I may have to give this some serious thought. Still, the Jetglo is calling to me.

Rickenbacker have just announced the TRIUMPHANT RETURN of the semihollow 4005, now marked the 4005V!!! They are expected to be just under $5k and ship out in the summer!!! SUPER excited!!

I got to play a new mapleglo at the GC in Santa Anna, early eighties. Just hanging on the rack. It was a nice bass. Pretty big body.

It looks absolutely GORGEOUS but after all my shockingly poor experiences with Rickenbacker's build quality I just can't feel the GAS here. Especially at that price!

Just out of curiosity:

I've never played this model. The pickup positions look a bit extreme... A pickup THAT close to the bridge is probably a tone I will personally never need. I'm also not a huge fan of blending pickups on MOST basses (although there are a couple of exceptions). The neck pickup... that's mudbucker territory (the position, not the pickup design).

Do these basses sound as extreme as the pickup positions suggest? Which other basses do they compare to tonally?
