"Playing Reverend Basses on a Regular Basis"
Absolutely BLOWN AWAY!!!
Thanks to a previous relationship with Daktari and a non paying ebayer, I was fortunate enough to buy this 5L Racing Stripe beauty. Daktari is great to deal with & I look forward to meeting him in person this summer.
I was in a band in the late 90's called Rumblefish & contacted Reverend about an endorsement of some sort (wishful thinking on my part) Joe was awesome, but I was unable to pull the trigger (woulda coulda shoulda)
I watched Daktari's bass sell on ebay & was again unable to pull the trigger. When I saw the add the next morning I again watched the auction go buy with no bids. A sign from above.....hmmmm
I e-mailed Daktari & we worked it out. I'm so happy with this bass!! Love it!!! And now I need to buy Daktari's Black Fish!!! After 12 years of wanting a Fish it's finally happened.
Thanks again Daktari & c-dub as well. Your ex-fishfriend is in grateful & capable hands.

FWIW, after long soul-searching, I've decided to hold on to all my Revs.
Yes, darnit, I guess I'm a collector, but only of Reverends. I don't like the connotations of the word "collector" -- since it conjures up images of some snooty person hoarding their treasures. I do play them though -- in fact the 5L went out to practice last night and was well received. But I guess I am a collector. I just can't seem to part with them, and I'm always wanting more.
I'm probably going to sell the Dark Star P instead.

That's as cheap as I've seen anything go, but, of all the Rev's out there, the JJ4 is my least fave.
Call me a blasphemer if you will, but there's just a lot of other jazz variants I like way better.

Wow, $550! That one is identical to my #47. Good thing I don't look at eBay anymore.
I'm about to bug the guy I sold #62 to. I can't afford to buy it back, but I also know it's just been sitting unplayed in the case for the last nine months. I'm gonna ask him if I can take a look at the neck to see if it needs adjusting, and maybe I'll be able to spirit it away. We'll see.

Part 5! Not too shabby. Reverend: the little bass that could..
I need to take some new pics. Here's old ones for the time being. The Blue JJ is bass #47 and I've had it for 10 1/2 years. The gold PJ might be the nicest bass I've ever owned and has pretty much killed my G.A.S. for anything else. Thanks, Gary!
Dave, you're quite welcome!! I only wish I could have have stayed satisfied with the Fish I've had....I've owned four of them, and in the end I sold them all to go with G&L's.....

Like Gary, I've sold off most of the Reverends I've had. I'm donw to 3 now, a 5L, a Houser, and a PJ.
I've also been a long time G&L guy, and, I've sold off most of those too...I still have several, but they're all passive now.
At any rate, I tolk my Gold PJ to work last night, got mucho postive comments on both sound and looks, and had forgotten how great it felt and sounded. Good stuff.

I love my gold P/J, too. Like you say, Chef, it feels and sounds great, and looks like a '57 Chevy.
I've owned six Reverends -- three JJ, one XL, one PJ and one 5L -- and I'm down to my two essentials, the rosewood JJ and the maple PJ pictured above. What a pair!
I still GAS for various basses, but at the end of the day, the Rev is still "IT" for me. sure am glad I found them.

My Rick was my first "real" bass. I then got my 2 G & Ls . Then my Geddy with a J-Retro became my main axe. I then picked up the Reverends. I go back to my Geddy every once in awhile. My G &Ls look great, but when I play them...ehhh. It'ss 99% Reverend, 1% Geddy fro me.

The G&L's I still play are:
a) ooold
b) passive
to wit: a couple of L1000's; an old SB2JJ, and old SB2 PJ; and an old JB2JJ with Nords in it.
The Rev is my fave PJ.

I play a fair number of other basses (tonight I'm taking my Sadowsky PJ and the "Mighty Turd" (a souped up Squier VM Jazz that proves that you CAN 'polish a turd,' so to speak). My Reverend PJ is probably only #2 or #3 in the rotation (after the Sad and maybe the Steinberger) due to the music we play.
But few other basses give me as much joy to play. On quite a few songs, the Reverend PJ is just IT. But I don't like to change basses in the middle of the set and we're doing more funk/slap stuff now and then.
Somehow the Reverends are just special to me even though I often play other basses.
