I can't deny that any individual experience could be different.
Just that mine doesn't correspond here.
I traded out the stock gotoh-ish tuners for h/p light clovers on 3 Rev's; tho all were older variants.

I've also swapped them onto some head-divey Fenders.

Theory would say that moving to a tuner with less mass could perhaps negatively effect sustain, and "heft," but, I've never had either of those happen.

I don't know. I was really hoping to be there when it was done so I could hear a before and after version, but I couldn't get off of work. I wasn't expecting much of a difference, if any. But the sound from Kens voice when he called me...He was completely stunned.
Only bad thing now, I haven't played through my rig since November. I'll see when I plug in this weekend if I have to adjust any settings. Otherwise, I'll just be going from memory.

Hey everyone I've been looking around and I stumbled upon Reverend Basses! and I think I'm in love with the Decision! I've been looking for a while and I wasn't able to find any sound clips/videos, all I could find was written reviews, they are helpful but still not enough for me, if anybody owns one would you please share one? (sound clip/video)

Also what are your opinions on the Decision? I really want one! come on help me get my "Decision" !

Yep - different bass. When I want more acoustic, I go to piezo... And LaBella Tapes. Most of my work is in the acoustic support camp. Probably 7 to 1 for me playing with acoustic guitars and vocalists to electric guitars ... In my stable it's been a Godin Acoustibass or A4, Kala Ubass, good ABG or a Barker Brio with a Graphtech Ghost piezo setup. They just work way better than straight up electrics...

I have a Renaissance 5-string fretless (one of the first out) that I use for the occasional jazz gig. It uses Thomastik-Infeld Phosphorbronze Round Wound 5 strings (I heard they were designed with this string in mind). I also have a 4-string set on a nameless ABG.

IMO, if you are using piezos, they are the ****.

2 gigs with the new tuners....wow...seriously..wow. I always said that the Mercalli seemed to get lost in the mix at times...I alway's had to cut the bass on my amp to help it cut through. I actually have to boost the bass a tad now. It sustains for days now.
Friday night was at our regular gig. I always gladly wear earplugs there because the room sounds horrid. An old bank with a 40 foot ceiling. I took my plugs in and out all night and thought that it actually sounded..not too bad for once.
Saturday night was a room that had decent sound. Midway through the first set, I thought I could use a little more bottom. I boosted the bass a touch, and bam. There it was. Real clean bottom end. Ken had the perfect analogy. It was like taking a blanket off of the strings.
I would have never believed they would have made that big of a difference.

Back in the club!
Got a Rumblefish 5L yesterday, played it briefly last night and I must say that I like it better than the BH5 I got a few years ago :)

Question: How is the switch wired?
serial, parallel and .... ? (I am guessing bridge PU solo???)

I've been playing the XL for a couple of months now...thoroughly enjoyable!! I've added a Tech 21 VTbass Deluxe to the floor gear and it works very well with Reggie. I bought the VTBass as a trial before dropping big $$ on a new amp. So good I have forgotten about buying a new amp. I set my amp's eq flat and run the VTBass as the sole pre-amp. Really easy to use and versatile!

XL volume and tone pots questions. The volume knob provides limited adjustment. Seems like the volume drops off a cliff when you back off 1/4 turn or so. I have been leaving it full on and using my foot volume pedal in case I need to adjust, but I would like to have fine control on board.

Also - the tone pot is really subtle....not much of an audible differnece between 10% and 90%. I would like a bit more control here as well.

I've read somewhere that these pots are 250kohms. What effect would switching to 500kohms have on the range of adjustment? Anyone have a schematic for the V/T/ switch configuration?

Just checked out a couple of the new Revs at a local music store here in Powell, OH. WOW! Love them!

I had a Rumblefish XL back in the day. Never really felt married to the neck on the Fish. I MUCH prefer the necks, and PU configurations, on these new Reverends! I know...Apples and oranges, IMO, etc.

I need to break open the piggybank and see what's what.

I posted this in its own thread a few days ago, but no one's responded. I was hoping that maybe someone subscribed to this thread could help me out...

I'm interested in getting a gold pickguard for my J/J Rumblefish, but Reverend doesn't stock them any more. Their FAQ recommends contacting Pickguardian to get replacements. I've also seens Rumblefish guards at Dazbootman and Pickguard Heaven.

Does anybody know which aftermarket material matches the gold originally used on the Rumblefish? I'm also wondering which thickness (.060", .090" 1-ply, or .090" 3-ply) is closest to the Reverend material and whether or not I should order shielding on the back of the replacement pickguard. Thanks!
