That's not opinion, that's fact!
I had Chromes on my gold P/J when I sold it, and they were the perfect match for that bass (metal top, maple fretboard.)
For rounds on 'Fish, I like Ernie Ball Slinkys or D'Addarios.

Amen to that!

When I had my 5L a few years back I had GHS Boomers on the bass, sounded great, but had I known that the chromes sound so good back then it would have been a different story...

I have flats on my Tele and love it,but prefer the attack of rounds for the more aggressive stuff. I tried some pressure wounds last week on a friends bass and thought those might make a nice middle-ground.They seemed pretty good,but I only noodled on them for 15-20min.. I usually use EB Slinky's but I'll give the XL's a try too.

7250=nickel plated steel rounds.
I *think* those are what came on the Fender American Standard P5 I had.
Those sounded great on that bass.

Yep. My P5 is still wearing the original set of Fender 8250-5s from two years ago, and they still sound real good. I threw a set on my 5L a few weeks before I sold it to rkingly, and I recall him saying he dug 'em.

I believe Rezdog has LaBella black tapes on one of his two BH5.
You can get a great price on these, from Carvin.

Thanks for the comments regarding the PJ with racing stripe. I just wanted to post an update. I replaced the Barts with Nordstrand P in the neck, and Big Split in the bridge. I really like this combination better. The P is much clearer while staying nice and fat,and the Big Split can do a couple of things, with the tone all the way up it sounds like a fat punchy j bass bridge, but with it down some it sounds sort of like a P. I am real happy with the change.

The barts were good, but too smooth with the Labella's 760's it sports. Now it is very punchy but can be mellow as well.

What iam looking for is a more acoustic sound. The chromes deliver punch and fit for rock, but I need more something for these mellow singer/songwriter club concerts...let's call it a decent mellow acoustic(like) sound.

Any suggestions?

Yep - different bass. When I want more acoustic, I go to piezo... And LaBella Tapes. Most of my work is in the acoustic support camp. Probably 7 to 1 for me playing with acoustic guitars and vocalists to electric guitars ... In my stable it's been a Godin Acoustibass or A4, Kala Ubass, good ABG or a Barker Brio with a Graphtech Ghost piezo setup. They just work way better than straight up electrics...

So......Ken from Reverend originally said he was going to pick up some hipshots for me, because he wanted to know if he could hear a difference. I got tired of waiting, so I picked them up myself.
He was using my bass at the NAMM booth, so I couldn't put them on until afterwards. I was going to put them on myself, but my bass was still up at Reverend HQ, so I just gave them to Ken to see if Zack would put them on. Zack said...you just wasted your money, because it won't make a difference. He put them on, and immediately called Ken over. Ken said...."The difference is astounding"...."almost like taking a blanket off the strings"...I haven't heard it yet, but I can't wait.
Word of warning, the screws are on the opposite side of the factory ones. You'll either have holes on the back of the headstock, or some fill work to do.

Wow. Guess I need to get a set for my Mercalli!
Did they have to drill new holes, or will the screws just work their way in? The thought of drilling into the headstock scares me a bit.
