I'm interested in getting a gold pickguard for my J/J Rumblefish, but Reverend doesn't stock them any more. Their FAQ recommends contacting Pickguardian to get replacements. I've also seens Rumblefish guards at Dazbootman and Pickguard Heaven.

Does anybody know which aftermarket material matches the gold originally used on the Rumblefish? I'm also wondering which thickness (.060", .090" 1-ply, or .090" 3-ply) is closest to the Reverend material and whether or not I should order shielding on the back of the replacement pickguard. Thanks!

I might be able to help you but I'm away from home. I might have one at home, since I originally replaced the gold JJ guard on my XL with a silver one. I think i still have the gold one around.

Also, I got the silver one made for my XL about a year ago, so it's possible that the place that made it can still make another one for you.

I'll try to follow up after I get home.

I do have an original gold 4-string Rumblefish JJ pick guard. Since I have a silver one on it now that I had made for my white 'fish, I don't really need the gold one. It has shielding on the back and is pretty thick and beveled.

It's yours for the price of shipping - maybe $15? Send me a PM if you want it.

I am still astounded at the huge difference the hipshot ultralites made on the mercalli. the stock tuners are a lot heavier, and tend to "smear" the sound of the bass. the bass now has more punch, and is more articulate. also as a bonus it balances perfectly. when Joe and I were spec- ing parts for the BH5, I quickly found out that adding more metal to the bass tended to make it pingier in the treble, more scooped in the mids, especially low mids, and tended to make the bass feel more compressed overall. lightening the bass ( aluminum hipshot bridge, ultralight tuners ) opened up the sound, became more woody, more detailed mids, and punchier, more dynamic in general. going from a heavy bridge/ heavy tuners to a light br/ tuners will make it feel and sound like a completely different instrument. it ain't subtle. bh

Articulate...Perfect word. before the hipshots, I actually had the bass control in the negative on my amp. It just seemed to get lost. I can now boost it a hair, and get really good, solid, clean, punchy low end. I popped a string over the weekend and had to switch to my 5L. The Mercalli sounds a lot closer to the 5L now than before.

Just got my first reverend yesterday. This thing rocks! We have a new bass store in Colorado called Premier Bass Guitars that carries reverend. I had never heard of them before I set foot in that store. As soon as I saw the dub king, I got that funny feeling. Like when I use to climb the rope in gym class. Then when I played it, I was in love! This thing looks cool and sounds amazing. Ive always wanted a short scale hollowbody, and this has surpassed my expectations (especially for an import!).

Thanks guys! I just got the cabinet as well. Needless to say, I played a LOT this weekend. New gear just makes me wanna play!

Just an update on the DK, it plays very well with effects! The TFR sounds awesome with it. The only one I'm having a little trouble dialing in is the TA!FM. It's a very loud pedal to begin with, and the DK seems to have a pretty high output compared to my jazz bass. But man, I'm overall very pleased with my new purchases!

I'm about to get a set. Did you use the 3/8" or 1/2", and key or cloverleaf? Thanks!

So, I was doing a little detail cleaning on my Rumblefish today. When I removed the V/V/T knobs, I realized that my bass has set-screw knobs (usually used on solid shafts), but split-shaft pots.

The knobs look original. Do all Rumblefish use this same odd setup?

Might explain why the tone knob was coming loose... :hmm:
