After debating whether to get a Fender p bass or a Reverend, I bought a Decision bass in party red the other day and I'm really happy with it!
I've been after one for a while now, especially as the guitarist in my band is starting to build up a collection of Reverends (sensei 290, double agent and flatroc) which are all amazing guitars.
Here's a bit of a rubbish picture of it, apologies!

Just thought I'd chime in that I A/B'ed my rumblefish PJ against an MIJ Fender Aerodyne Jazz (PJ) and the fish totally PWNs the fender on tone.

The fish has hotter pickups, more spank, more clarity and more beef. The fender however is more comfortable to play.

Is there a general consensus what Flats work best on Revs?
I have put a Sadowsky, a Fender, a LaBella Nylonwound and a Chrome string (one of each set) on my Rumblefish trying to determine what I like best?

Is this a good way of trying this, knowing that even within a set of the same type, the D string sounds different than the E string?

While I am partial to Chromes myself, I don't think there's a consensus here.

The string you use is determined by completely and uniquely subjective criteria. It doesn't matter at all, and may not even be helpful, knowing which sets other people like the sound and feel of.

You have to put a set on and play it. Play it solo, record with it, especially play it in whatever ensemble(s) you have available to see how it sits in a mix. Get some feedback from the other players. I don't know how else a musician makes any gear decision.

I don't see how putting 4 strings from 4 different sets on your bass can tell you anything useful. The strings have different outputs, and comparing everything at the same volume is essential, so is comparing the same string, That's just my 2 cents.

If you go by what gets posted on Talkbass, there would certainly appear to be a consensus. That consensus would be Chromes.

Speaking as a flats lover, I'm in the "Chromes only "camp for flats on a Rumblefish. Tried a bunch, mostly they sound a bit dead to me. Even my beloved TI flats don't sound good to me on a Fish.

My hunch is Roto 77's might work well on the Fish, as they are bright and punchy.

Been getting great results with TI Jazz Rounds on one of mine. Very musical, good presence.

As mentioned it's all personal taste, and whatever gets the job done in your situs.

A definite "plus 1" on Chromes being the way to go if you want flats on a Rumblefish. I tried TI Jazz Flats, Labella's, GHS, Lakland, etc but none gave me the bite and the feel that the Chromes do. I'm particularly partial to the ECB80 Chromes which are 40-95.

I absolutely love the TI's on everything I've had them on, except for the PJ. They weren't bad by any stretch. They just didn't wow me like they had on everything else. Weird. But for whatever reason the chromes just click with me on the PJ (haven't tried flats on the 5er yet).

I use my chrome flats on my Rev BH5, brings a warm and fuzzy smile every time I plug it in. Absolutely love them on my Rev. That said, not counting my days playing fretless when was younger, it's a first for me. I've seen far too many folks praise flats on a Reverend to ignore it, but consensus might not be the right word... Call it a movement?
