That one at finecases looks identical to the one I have now. I got mine from long and mcquade. Latches are falling off... pretty week tolex etc. Good price point though and I've got 2 years out of it so far.

I just talked to Greg (Daktari) and he says the MK2 tuxedo case with the black lining is the sturdiest of the bunch... Pretty sure its made by TKL so that's what I'm getting.

I did a little research on this some time ago. Cedar Creek Cases, the maker of the original Reverend bass cases, gave me this quote:

custom teardrop black top and bottom, white
sides, black plush interior...$247.45 plus shipping

I think I remember they said they still had the blueprints for the Reverend cases. As close as it gets, just missing the Reverend logo.

Cedar Creek may have made the Guitar MK1, and Mk2 (the all black case with grey lining, and then the Black Case, Red Lining, and Gold Reverend Lettering....)

But the Tuxedo cases MK1 & Mk2 Bass, and Mk 3 & Mk4 guitar) were TKL cases... at least, all the Black and White teardrop cases I have seen (about 60 bass and guitar) were TKL...

My guess is that the Cedar Creek cases were the inspiration... as Reverend probably bought a couple dozen that were used with the first hundred or so guitars, then they Reverendized the design with the red lining and gold lettering.

When things really got going for the Reverend brand, they shopped case makers, and went with TKL for the Black and White ones.

The answer is yes, and, yes.

For years, the rev PJ wass -the only- PJ I ever fully bonded with.
I recently got a Sadowsky MV5PJ that's stuck, but, that too is very much it's own flavor.

I should mention that I got my TKL tuxedo case last week...

WOW! Makes my existing teardrop look like a toy. Biggest differences are overall weight and stiffness of the case; heavier and much stiffer! Hardware is solid. The inside partition that holds the neck is in just the right spot to keep the bass securely tucked in the case. Sweet build.

EDIT: This MK2 is a totally different offering than my current hardshell teardrop case. Built to last the way a case should be and worth the investment IMO... I wonder if TKL is still building cases this solid today?

IMHO, the earlier Rev Cases are more for show, then for go. I think the prettiest one is the red lined black N white case.

But those are rare, and actually more for "collecting". Reverend only sold 25% of their instruments in Hard shell cases... and with less than 1000 basses made, that means there is only about 250 at most, teardrop/tuxedo cases out there... of both types (Mk1 red lined, and Mk2 Black lined).

When I did research for Revfan.com, I found out that the manufacturer required cases be ordered in "groups" of 24... so matching up the numbers, my guess is only 48 + a few prototype red lined Mk1 cases exist... so maybe there are 200ish Black lined cases.

So the tuxedo cases are rarer then the basses themselves.
