I couldn't tell if the prices included a case, or bag; or, what the new cases/bags look like.

The old prices didn't include such things.
Anyone know this, and what they're offering this time?

Ken,

That's my idea of perfect rock bass tone. Does the sound guy massage your tone a lot, or is that pretty much what you get out of your amp?

Do you use a bit of some kind of drive to thicken your tone? Is the Rev on center blend, or more on the P pu?

There are a few shops listed as dealers within an hour to an hour-fifteen from my house. If they actually stock the new bass line I will make the day trip when they come in. I can't see myself spending $1K for a bass w/o putting my hands on it.

I am paying a grand, case NOT included. No, they haven't solved the case problem, but I am hopeful that any case that fit an old Starfire or Coronado or similar will work. I have some homework to do, but more than a month to for it.

A little help?

That is pure Rumblefish straight into my amp and the PA through the built-in DI of my MarkBass rig. You are hearing the sound of a PJ fish through a good PA.

The settings are: Neck pickup full, bridge pickup just slightly less than full and Tone full.

That sound is why they call me Reverend Ken.

I should probably mention that it doesn't hurt that the sound man at the club is a) very good; b) a friend; c) has worked with me at this club for more than a year; and 4) respects my wishes to do as little eq as possible on my channel. That is priceless. Props, John.

And one final thing. 8-year old Chromes.

Aha! Glad you added that last detail; I've been meaning to try those on my Lull P/J.

That's so interesting that you're using no drive stage or pedal; your tone sounds "thickened".

First of all, and this should have been the first thing I said when I originally responded to your post, thank you very much. I am flattered, and humbled.

Secondly, regarding my upcoming purchase of a Dub King, it will be getting a set of Chromes before I even plug it in. Chromes are an integral part of my sound. My old Fender P with a slighly newer J neck Frankenbass had LaBella's, and the Chromes woke it right up. My '79 Steinberger XL Trans-trem has LaBellas because Chromes don't come in double-ball end :crying: I'm just a flat-wound kind of guy.

If you use the list and street prices of the guitars as a guide then the bass street prices look like this:
Decision & Justice: $899
Dub King & Thundergun: $999
Mercalli 5: $1049
Mercalli 5 FM: $1099
Obviously this could be incorrect. Probably the price is sans case.

Actually, these look to be accurate street prices and you are also correct that these prices don't include the case. Reverend always sold their goods a la carte, AFAIK.

Thanks for the info, Ken!!

There's a dealer just a few miles from me, so I'm hoping they will get some in. I'm not sure I'm excited enough to ante up for what they are putting out sight unseen (or at least unplayed), but I'll definitely give them a try if one is nearby. I'm not terribly interested in any basses at all right now; my main players have me completely satisfied (which is something quite new for me).

@ BartmanPDX: I get that. In fact, I have accumulated a lot of basses, all with different sounds and feels. But since 2003, I have almost exclusively gone to my PJ 'fish. In the last 8 years, I can count on the fingers of one hand how many times I have brought out another bass. And the thumb is not a finger. BUT, for a few different application-related reasons, I began looking at short-scale basses, specifically, semi-hollow/hollowbody. There are some good ones out there, but none really satisfied. For one thing, they all (even really expensive Hofners) have these crappy bridges, a major sore point with me. The Dub King has what looks like a good, solid (but adjustable) bridge. Major. Then it has Naylor designed pickups. BIG plus. and a combo of a humbucker and a split-P single coil. Ooooh, baby. Do you know how many of those I've seen? That's right: 0.

If it doesn't sound as good as I hope it will, I will sell it in a heartbeat; maybe lose a little money, but...

If it sounds like I think it will, it will begin to co-star with it's older, American-made brother.

In hockey vernacular, I'd be willing to wager, you'll have yourself a Gretzky-Kurri combo...for those not familiar with the lingo, it doesn't get any better!

Ken: I get your excitement about the original PJ. I have two of them. :D One of them is currently configured as an XL (it came with two sets of pickups and two PGs and was ordered that way IIRC), but it was set up as a PJ prior to the arrival of my second one.

I look forward to hearing your thoughts when you get it.
