Pretty sure that Fellowship used to be mine. A great axe, I miss it. Though honestly, I probably miss it more bc Meshell is my favorite bass player than I do the axe itself. (Moved on to a Warmoth p bass build, fwiw.)

Question for Fatfish 32 (or other medium scale) owners.

Hi folks. I've just ordered a Basshouser Fatfish 32. I have never owned a medium scale bass before and I have a question about string length.
I'll be stringing this through the body, my question is would a medium scale specific length string be adequate, or do you Fatfish/medium scale owners use long scale strings and cut to size?

Long scale strings worked fine for me going through the body.

Hey Mercalli owners, quick question! Wondering how your bass holds up with its P and MM pickups when you use each one separately compared to the real basses? I know the P is reversed. But I hope you can share your experiences

The P is great, I also play a standard P bass and the Rev P more than holds its own. Never have played a MM so can't help you there. I typically used the MM (bridge) pickup only when I want to dial down the P a bit, I don't care much for the MM on its own (not thick enough for my taste)

That's pretty much the problem I had with all MM hybrid basses (when they have another pickup in the neck position). Low end is just missing, i guess because it's to close to the bridge.

They are close, but not 1:1. I find the split brick to be hotter than my MIM P stock pickups with quite a bit more punch and sustain. My P bass is softer and more nuanced and can be shaped and tamed easier than the split brick. I don't have a preference to either. They both have their strengths.

I don't have a P bass or an MM so I can't give you a solid answer, however I play with the split brick as the dominant with a bit of the thick brick mixed. I do however like the Thick brick with a bit of the split mixed. The only time they both fail is when the blend is 50/50. Otherwise they're fantastic.

Good to know. I mostly play rock, metal/hardcore, a bit of punk and pop music. So a hotter pickup would be i guess better on paper for "heavy" music. I never use the tone blend on my P bass

Used to own a Dub King, which has the same pickups but in different spots along the instrument. The MM style pickup is very much that, but a lot smoother imo. More balanced, less biting and not as bright. The P brick was further up the neck, so it acted more like an old school neck pickup than a P unless I blended in a little bridge. It was far more balanced though and even throughout the sonic spectrum - the reversing of the coils helped a ton I feel.

All in all, it's all about where the pickup is - I'd argue the majority of any pickup's sound is just where it is in relation to the contact points, and ofc where you pluck, so experiment and make it your own.

Totally agree, hence the question since PUs are pretty much always in a different spot compared to the instruments they take inspiration from. I also agree that Reverend don't try to build replicas. I have a P bass, always loved P basses but would like to have a MM bass aswell If i can get both for half the price of Stingray,I would buy one in a heartbeat. I unfortunatley don't have the chance to try one out. So thanks for all the helpful replies!

You really can't compare any Reverend with a humbucking neck pickup with a MM Stingray unless there is a preamp onboard.
Never heard any MM Stingray owner complaining about no low end.
