I meant the humbucker in the bridge position. But yes, i wanted to know how both pickups compare to the respective basses. The neck PU to a P Bass and the bridge PU to a Stingray. Of course the P PU would not sound anything like a MM bass. Just generally speaking (mostly MM in bridge and J or MM in neck basses) the bridge MM PU is often to close to the bridge, hence a sound that has more treble and can't compare to a MM bass. And I just refer to non MM Stingray basses. I had a Cort GB for example. The humbucker in the bridge was basically unsuable on its own in passive mode.
And in regards to the EQ section. I'll always use a Preamp or EQ before the Amp. It's just a preference. Don't like batteries or active preamps in my basses. I guess some sort of EQing would allow me to get even closer to a Stingray sound, just using the bridge PU.

Reverend makes great instruments for the price. I would suggest finding a Mercalli used and if it’s not your taste, you’re able to sell it for about what you paid for it.

I wish they made more 5 stings.

@BartmanPDX - I did a search on Santaclops on TB and saw your post on Reverend Club Part 2 (Permalink above) where you asked @tombowlus if he ever drew up the Santaclops "avatar" or graphic. I have had a definite Santaclops kind of holiday this go-around.

The Santaklops notion goes back to 2007 when I cobbled (gobbled?) together the Turklops. I think I remember doing the Santaclops graphic also, but I can't find it anywhere on my PC or here on TB. It seems like it got on TB somewhere, probably my doing when I had one of my I-can't-stand-holidays years. Maybe it will turn up somewhere. I think I sent it to Tom. So, maybe Tom has that graphic stashed away somewhere in his archives.. It's around somewhere.

And maybe someday I'll add a Reverend to my collection and get one or both of the Klopses made into a sticker for it.

Mercalli guy here. I rarely solo either pu, usually have a 60/40 or 70/30 ish blend. With the split brick I will sometimes go further and have just a bit of the thick blended it to help give the lower notes a bit more clarity.

What I have found is the split sounds really good on its own. Very P-ish. Phat sound. Lovely. The thick has a brighter, zingy, cuts more sound. Similar to the bridge on jazz but, different? It does miss some low end but I really dig the sound of it. I like having the 60/40ish split favoring the thick to mimic the sweet spot on a jazz, great when I want to cut a bit more, or certain effects like my envelope filter just sing better with the thick favored. But for what I play, mainly a lot of blues, blues rock, or classic rock inspired tunes, I've found favoring the split with some thick blended in is just perfect for 99% of everything haha.

I have a question for the Reverend collective... Perhaps this has been addressed before, but I was unable to find anything via a search. I own a couple of Dub Kings. Love 'em. Except the pan knob. I've never liked Reverend's pan knob. I used to own a Thundergun and a Mercalli and likewise did not care for the pan knob on those either. The loss in volume and presence as you pan away from full-on one pickup or the other is disappointing. So I just roll back and forth between full-on bridge pickup and full-on neck pickup (both of which sound fantastic).

Because of this, on my Dub Kings I would like to replace the pan knob with a plain old 3-way pickup selector toggle switch (using the same hole in the control plate that's currently used by the pan pot).

Has anyone here done this mod? Any recommendations for a particular brand or type of switch I ought to use? I figured I'd just go with Switchcraft 3-way switches for Les Pauls. Any wiring suggestions? I wonder if one result of a 3-way selector switch will be a fuller sound when both pickups are on. But primarily it will make it a bit more convenient to go back and forth between full-on bridge pickup or full-on neck pickup.

The phase cancellation happens in any guitar or bass when two pickups are turned up all of the way. Depending on where the two pickups are located relative to each other different mid frequencies get notched. This can lead to a perceived volume dropped.

It's due impedance reduction, although there also are phase effects. Yes, it also happens with a 3-way switch.

Also important Wattplower update for potential new owners: Reverend is no longer including a hard case with either model, so any currently listed ones for sale w/ a Reverend two tone teardrop case are now officially "old stock". Grab 'em while you can if you're into the hard case thing (I personally hate hard cases so it doesn't matter to me - going in my Gator ProGo for the gigs).

I’m back baby! I had a Mercalli 4 for a while but ended up selling it because I needed a 5 string. It was the only bass I ever regretted selling. Well, I was finally able to get my hands on the Mercalli 5 with the wine red flamed maple top. I love this thing! Sounds and plays amazing.

I actually really like the Reverend blend lol. My other bass is a Schecter Corsair and the blend knob is atrocious. It almost works as a 2 way switch, either all neck or all bridge. The center detent is useless, it has a huge loss in volume. I reached out to Schecter and they basically said it is what it is. I mistakenly took it back to Guitar Center because of the warranty and the "tech" completely bypassed the preamp and left a few things ungrounded.
