Where it really shines is in the wide range of KILLER passive tones. It gets this beefy-yet-detailed P-Bass tone that I haven't had since I owned a vintage Fender with an early EMG installed. LOVE that. The bridge PU soloed is more like a muscular passive Jazz bridge tone than an active-EQ 'Ray, so put that right out of your head if you were thinking along those lines. But it is killer as well, and there is a wide range of subtle variants available between the two. One in particular that I am loving: tone rolled off about 25%, pan rolled *just* ahead of center, favoring the Split Brick, and playing finger-style between the two pickups. Dee-lish. BTW, as with all basses, your right hand position makes a difference in tone, but with the Merc it is REALLY noticeable. And useable.

Piping in: My Mercalli 5 has become my #1 bass for the last 2 years now, for all the reasons PD mentions above. My vote for the best passive 5 string. Very flexible and it's just such good usable tones. Another great sound: Pan rolled just a little toward bridge pickup, tone full up: Powerful enough to give you some active-style cut.

Slightly favouring the bridge with tone open is my go-to sound. So so good.

Like a fat stingray tone.

These are the "sneak pics" I got in an email from Reverend. Only one that picques my interest is what looks like a short scale bass with a p blade pickup in root beer color.

Calling Brother Chris from Reverend, where are some better shots?!

For a few days, I owned five Rumblefish. Now I'm down to just the swirly PJ.

Yep, you owned the BH5 in this picture for a while:

Of the four in this picture which I later sold, I miss the white 5L the most. That bass had fantastic tone.
