I've owned almost everything under the sun at one point or another (73 different basses in 38 years of playing/slutting), but never a Reverend. I loved the Rumblefish that I tried when they first came out back in the prior millennium, but for some reason I never bought one.

It's funny: Since I have black tapes on my Gen 1 slab P, and La Bella flats on my Gen 2 ano P, having this strung with rounds actually fills a piece of the puzzle—between the Precisions and my Roscoe LG5. At least, that is how I am justifying the acquisition ...

No more purchases in 2019! Resolution #9!

So, after a six month wait, My Mercalli 4 arrived yesterday, just before I left for work. First thing that struck me was the colour and how rich it looked by comparison to the stock photos seen online. It is a definite copper, rather than orange (although this is proving rather difficult to capture!). The roasted maple neck does indeed have a lovely rich caramel colour, as described on the website, silky smooth finish and the hardware sets if off, giving it a very classy and quality feel. The other thing that struck me was the quality of the workmanship. Almost flawless from my what I can see. I tuned it up and plugged it in for a very quick test through my Subway rig. I'll play it through the full 115 and 112 rig tomorrow. First impressions, lovely big full sound. Blend knob ids very easy to use and as many of you know, a slight adjustment towards the bridge or neck produces a great range of tones. I actually like the bridge soloed but will have to see how that fits in a band situation when playing live this weekend. I'm not sure how to use the bridge as I'd like to restring it with a new set of Chromes I bought for the occasion. Haven't played rounds for about seven years, so they'll have to go. I'll hopefully report back with a 'field report' in a couple of days. All in all, seems like a great purchase. Enjoy the pics!

Does anyone know the type of strings that ship with Reverend basses? I think I saw Ken say somewhere they are made by SIT but not sure which particular model. Mine feel and sound like stainless steel but I could be wrong. I am really enjoying playing rounds again after so long. They feel so light and easy to play compared to the tension and thickness of Chromes.

That's a tough question. We're not sure what strings are on them when they come from the factory. We only change them if the strings are bad. Which happens often. When we change them here, we put S.I.T. Powerround Nickel on them.

Ok thanks for the reply Chris. My E string looks a bit weird on the tuning post, as if it going to unravel. I have a set of Slinkys i could use but whatever is on the bass at present sounds amazing after years of flat wounds.

We usually put a S.I.T. hangtag on the tuners when we change. that looks like a factory string. They have a really significant taper near the end. It could very well be the rounds on fresh ears thing! I played flats for quite awhile, and when I switched back, I was like...Whoa!

I'm doing flats on the Houser sig when I get it.

Would anyone be able to explain to me how the locking bridge works? I was hoping to find a video on YT but can't see any.

I don't need to change the strings just yet, but was thinking of possibly raising the height of the E string a little. Thanks in advance.

The black Allen head screw(s) is loosened first, then make any and all adjustments (string height, intonation). When you're finished tweaking, just tighten the lock screw back down to set it.
