I think they're excellent basses. Very punchy with a good B string.

That big bridge humbucker will cut
In my opinion the fit and finish rivals USA fender
They come with two way trussrods and Hipshot tuners also
I'll second Lesfunks opinion.
The Mercalli 5 is a solid well built bass. I'd put the build quality up against and maybe slightly better than most in it's price range. It can definitely cut through. I always wondered how one would sound with a John East preamp. Great stock but a preamp would make one super versatile.
That's the exact same environment that I'm using one in and I get loads of compliments on my tone.
That's good to hear. I'm thinking of taking the plunge into the passive world.
Thoughts!
1. The reverend case IS too nice to take out on the gig! But I do it anyway!
2. Root beer mike watt colour is OUTSTANDING. Very tempted on that.
3. No new fivers- a touch disappointing.
4. The Mercalli cuts BUT, it always has a beefy bottom (*giggles while he types*) unlike, say, a stingray where you can really shave the low end and pump the mids hard.
4. I thought the new mike watt had 2 pickups?
5. The triad looks tres cool. Especially in the purple.
6. I still think that the body shape of most of the reverend basses really suits a flame maple/fancy wood top. Coupled with a trans finish. BOOM. The large upper horn can look a little drab in flat colours IMO.
7. The roasted necks are all beautiful.
8. The reverend guitar lineup is exceptional.
9. Decision 2 is a massive step in the right direction aesthetically and sound wise for that model.
10. The Raymond- I don't quite see how it fits in the lineup TBH
11. What an amazing company. From a j clone, a p clone and a p/mm when the Korean line started- to what we have to choose from now- outstanding. All these instruments are dripping with design chops.

As far as new fivers....I already mentioned it to Joe, he agreed, but also said he needs to create a jazz bomb 5 string pickup. Thats the holdup for a new five.
The new Mike Watt hasn't been finalized yet.
Ahhhh yip - well the new colours are all amazing. Really interested in how the new Watt turns out!
No new fivers - first world problems aye - its already a pretty big embarrassment of riches in the number of models and pickup options etc. All great stuff!
I'm actually in the hunt for a Mercalli 5. I'm torn between the different colors. I love the all black but the flame topped one look gorgeous. What's your opinion?

I think this one's almost too nice to play.
One would be in my small collection right now but the 4-string doesn't have the maple fretboard.
I would go with the turquoise or orange over the black personally.
And of those two- the orange.
