I don't know why, but I am drawn to the crazy colors. They all work, and I am normally a guy that plays darkwood and black basses. The Revs are the first bold/colorful basses I've ever liked.
Now that's the only one I like as well. I first saw that finish on a German site that called it "Tiger's Eye". I'm not normally drawn to gold, much prefer silver, but I would own one of those with the gold guard.

I think Joe said the one that Watspan has was a "quilted" finish, not like Chef's really at all. I helped a friend score a PJ like the one Chef has. Really pretty.
As a side comment, I played both my Reverends last night and they are most definitely off "the hot seat."
I'm not selling either of them, and I'd sure as hell hate to have to choose between them. The Houser has a slightly better and more flexible tone palette that none of my other basses have, and the white 5L is simply the best playing 5-string I've ever held.
Sorry to get some folks' hopes up here. Something else has got to go, and I think it will be the Dargie SR5. I haven't had as much chance to bond with it, and unlike the Revs or the Ric, it's replaceable except for the finish. I'm more of a passive bass guy anyway.
From now on, though, I've got to be more careful about what I buy. It would take one hell of a bass to make me consider selling my Reverends. Heck, the Sadowsky Metro would probably go out the door before they do.

right you are! I'm looking at the invoice right now from 10/28/05 and it is described as quilted demo # 12--$739.00--those were the days!
Compared to my other jj 4, it has a much heavier duty bridge. I do believe the top is an actual wood veneer.
Chef: I dig the faux finish--is it actually painted on top of the standard phenolic top?

WOW. Nice score, knifemaker! You got one hell of a good deal right there. Seller could have gotten a LOT more for that bass. Heck, if I had been around, I would have bought it and dealt with the consequences later.

On a side note, Chef's faux mahogany BH5 is mighty nice. I guess there are some faux wood finishes I like after all.
Way to go FL! Very nice score...just like mine but with rosewood board. Tip: those black and white checkered straps look killer with this color combo.

No sir, it's all melded in there like 70's den paneling, or cheesy furniture laminate topping.
In the right light, it looks pretty good, as in that photo. In other lights, it just looks real dark brown.
It sounds to die for!
