The Rickenbacker Club! (part 2)

I got into playing 5 string basses in 2001. I have gone on a long journey looking for a 5 string Rickenbacker with a bridge string spacing that is finger friendly and that has pickups wide enough to get good volume and good tone on all 5 strings. It was a journey of first modifying 4003s5 models. Then I converted 4 string 2030, 4003, and 4004 models into 5 string basses. Well this is my latest modification. I am very happy with this one. The string spacing at the bridge is 2 1/2". The bridge pickup has a pole pieces that cover 2 3/4". I also have a 4 band Audere preamp installed.

pickguardian is the way to go....Tony makes awesome pickguards....would not surprise me if Ric farmed some of the work to him and his p/g s are on the new basses :P

i have had many p/g from Tony and never had an issue...


+1 for the latest Rathenbacker!!

Very nice. By the way, I was talking about playing bass to someone (who doesn't play) and said to me that he didn't know in Guitar Hero you could play bass, too. I had to tell him that I actually play a REAL bass guitar---god, I hate that stupid computer game. People think they can actually play a guitar.:eyebrow:

The way I play I never go over the edge of the fretboard ... The pickups in there are about 6 and 8k ohms so the audere adds some beef to them. Also the way it is sey up now I can swap out several different pickups. AND THEY COVER ALL 5 STRINGS!!!

Ted's a good guy ... I miss him ... many others there are good guys too ... but there are a few who I don't miss ... I thought about going back but the hate there is depressing ...

As per the Audere preamp ... it sounds good on almost any bass with almost any pickups ... The East preamps are even better but they also cost more ... I love being able to dial in high and low mids right on the bass ...
