To make wide-sweeping absolute statements both about the necks and about RIC and it's owner is indeed not helpful. To simply state your opinion as to how the neck works for you is a useful statement. To assume you know how the owner of RIC functions and runs the company is, well, assuming a lot.

how much do used rics go for usually? theres actually one on ebay that i was thinking of, but the original bridge is swapped out with a a badass. is this something that will kill the resale, or more importantly the ric sound?

My 1982 4001 has a BadAss on it at the moment. I like what it does for the instrument sonically (sounds a bit "tighter"), and also in terms of making it much easier to adjust intonation and saddle height. IMO the bridge makes it a better instrument while still retaining the Ric sound with perhaps a bit more sustain than with the stock bridge. Note, however, that a lot of Rickenbacker aficionados take issue with anything other than factory issue....

A non-stock bridge brings its current value down a couple hundred dollars. Don't worry about it so long as you buy it cheap. I wouldn't pay over $1000 if it is a 4003, so long as the finish is in good shape and the rest is stock.

That 1998 4004CI-5 is REALLY nice... String it up with Chromes and I'd love it To be honest, the 4004-5 is the only Ric I would be able to love. No offense. But really nice basses here guys! I'm just more of a Fender guy..

Whats up with the duct tape?

its electrical tape. the bottom strip reminds me where the tone/ volume is. and the top is covering the usa sticker. does absolutely no damage. none. and its only on the pickguard. duct tape would damage i would never do that.
