GG7,

OK, good news. Both my 2012 4004 and 2011 4003 have at least an 1/8 of truss rod thread protruding. My 4003 is not over tight at all, quite the contrary and it's one of the more stable necks. My 4004 is another story. if rain in in the forecast, it's time for a truss rod adjustmemt! No, not quite but I need to screw with it more than my others.

Here is a foto.

Sepp

Thanks for that photo Sepp! Seeing a few other examples from you and also stringer makes me a little less concerned. The rods on this bass of mine are not through the nuts as far as your example.

Here are mine got more length on the G D side but the neck is straight action low and has been that way ever since it came from Wildwood. Stock RIC strings just in case you wanted to know.

Thanks for posting the photo!

The threaded ends of the rods on your photo are much further through the nuts than on my bass. Both of mine look closer to your E string side but I would say about half that much of the threads extended through to the other end of the nut, and both are equal right now.

Hopefully when I finally get that darned driver I can attempt a truss rod adjustment and I will post some photos.

Thanks again for taking the time to take and post those photos! Much appreciated! :)

So I guess I can have #500 ?

Just added this today :

I have always loved the sound of them, but they're even more scarce here in Europe as in the US, so I was quite surprised while visiting my usual (mom&pop) music shop this afternoon to see this.
Tried it and it came back home with me.

Seems to be one of the last 4001 (serial WE, which makes it may of 1983).
Checker with what resources I could find online , and it seems totally legit.
Just digging it, but I must say the cover gets in the way...

Will one of the available bezels fit on a 4001 ?

Guess that's the only (reversible) mod I would be willing to do !

Check out the Pick of the Ric website for bezel options. They have several models available.

Nice bass. Regarding the treble bezel:

Love the colour!

Historically, Rickenbacker finishes have been "conversion varnish." I am not a chemist and can't tell a varnish from a shellac, but from what I understand, the finish is a two-part mix. Recently (the last three years or so) RIC uses a more modern, UV-curing conversion varnish.
