Oh! It most definitely is that thin! I saw it with my own eyes. So thin, you can barely make out an edge when looking at the flaked off piece edge on.

At least on these three basses I personally inspected, they were that thin if not thinner than tin foil.

And I disagree on a finish not looking good if it is thicker. I have several Fender guitars/basses here and they have a beautiful finish on them much, much thicker than the RIC basses I have been dealing with.

I'm sorry. I've seen chipped Ric basses that were fairly new and foil thin is way too thin to describe what is was like. Maybe we are seeing basses from two totally different sample sets, so I'm not calling you dishonest, but what you're saying does not sound right at all.

The finish on my 2013 Ric appears solid and durable. I don't know why you are having such bad luck with Rics you own or have tried. Perhaps one will never be up to your standard of perfection. I don't purchase a bass to be a museum piece. I purchase them to play. If I purchase a bass new I expect a certain level of quality control, but stuff happens. If it's something that is minor....... I'm willing to overlook it if the bass sounds good and is a good player. If all these problem with finish only happens to you, see above about standard of perfection. How can there be so many satisfied Ric owners if there are all these problems you post about?

You're ok with this then? A factory sealed 2011 4003 sold by an authorized Rickenbacker dealer. One of THREE I received all with the same exact finish cracking problem. I should just be grateful I own such an awesome guitar brand, is that it? The fact the finish is falling off the body doesn't matter as long as it plays great? Thats your motto?

You must be late to the thread. That poor guy ordered one, it had that problem, and re-orderd/replaced it a couple of times by the dealer, and it kept happening. Even after assurances that they were personally inspected beforehand.

How can there be so many satisfied Ric owners if there are all these problems you post about?

And lots of dissatisfied ones as well. In the last year, I have never seen such a rash of problems with Ric basses and such stonewalling by Ric. Their arrogance and poor customer service is actually getting worse. Something's definately not right at Ric HQ. Rics are indeed funny. If you get a good one by chance, they are indeed superb. If you get a dud, you're pretty much screwed. No middle ground with Ric basses.

Sometimes I think some people's perception of reality is quite different than mine.

But everyone is allowed an opinion.

Well GG7 those pics seem to support your "foil thin" claim. So weird. I have seen chipped and cracked FG and MG that looks nothing like that. Maybe it's because I don't really pay as close attention to JG (not a big fan of that color). Anyway... I apologize for casting any doubt on your claims. That sucks.

The Entire Rickenbacker club #8 should be deleted because it was taken over by those who are compelled to complain ... The club thread should be for those who actually like the instrument ... at least a little ...

If you don't like Ricks then don't buy them.

And if you do and you feel complelled to complain then start a thread titled "My Rickenbacker is not Perfect"

We don't go on other club threads and complainn about their brand for 25 pages.

And if anyone on here knows about Rics, it's you.

Aria Pro basses, the old ones are great instruments. My Old Integra had a horrible neck pocket with side-to-side sloppiness, and the floppiest neck ever(I had to adjust the truss rod multiple times a year).

But I know they have made some really great basses as well.

I wouldn't go on an "Aria Pro club" thread and b*tch there. Just like I wouldn't go on a Stingray thread and complain about how much I dislike the high-end tone of those basses for myself.

This behavior has been explained in the stickies as "Trolling".

Here's the '81 4001 I picked up, finally working the way it should. Seems the mono jack was loose.

Edit: of course. Of course it has to post sideways. Bear with me until my laptop's out of the shop.

Wow OK, so now slagging "club members" for using this thread to voice issues with their instruments is an acceptable practice? Nice, at least we go that going for us!

I don't come here to bitch. I come here to help others who have concerns and or issues with their Rickenbackers.

To be perfectly honest, there are many "club members" here that are a wealth of knowledge and contribute positively to questions posted here and elsewhere.

Yup, agreed, "Club" threads should be more positive and brand supportive but there is no regulation in the stickies that say it "shall" be this way. Maybe there should be!

The truth is, you don't even have to be a club member to be able to post here. Who moderates this club list from going sideways?? Does the moderator think this thread went sideways? I'm thinking no. Some very valuable info has been passed here and very few have bitched about it until now, well after it has gotten back to a somewhat normal state.

Fanboys are imbeciles, enda story.

Suspension of analysis, intellect and critical faculties is never healthy, especially when you're dropping real money on something.

I've learned a lot more from this thread than I have from most of the other "club" nonsense, and I've been seeing gripes about Rickenbacker QC from shocked buyers on TB for a long time. It's not just this this thread.

The main thing I've learned is that, even more than most other US builders (which is saying a great deal), RIC needs to pull up its socks and get serious about the quality of their product and customer service, which are frequently atrocious.

I've also learned that if I'm going to buy a Rickenbacker (a move which I am seriously reconsidering), I need to be even more careful in scrutinizing the instrument and the price than I usually am.

And this just in...a local meatstick is trying to unload a used 2011 JetGlo on CL for $1600. :rollno:
