And while we're at it, come to Wisconsin in July (I promise the glaciers will have receded by then) for the Midwest Rickenbacker Confluence (MRC) and The Rickenbacker Electric Bass (book) Launch Event (TREBLE, ironically). We will gather in the community room (basement) of the Waterstone Bank, 6560 South 27th Street, Oak Creek, WI on Friday evening, July 19 (6-10pm), Saturday, July 20 (1-9pm), and Sunday, July 21 10am-5pm. All Rickenbacker enthusiasts are welcome, and the event is free. I'll be on hand with copies of my new book if you haven't got one by then, and I'll be glad to autograph yours if you like. This is mostly an instrument show, but there will be a few small amps on hand for the inevitable spontaneous jams.If you have questions, PM me.

Just got a '77 4001 with an incredibly thin/weak sounding bridge pickup. Took it to the shop and they isolated it against the neck pup and the bridge pickup is wired up properly and functions but is almost dead.

I want to avoid spending $180 on the entire bridge pickup assembly, buying a crappy SD replacement or sending it somewhere random for re-winding.

Does anyone have any suggestions please & thank you!

+1 on Jeff's suggestion. However... The bridge and neck pickups are actually identical under the chrome, and a new neck pickup assembly from the Rick boutiqe is $75. Just something to keep in mind. A rewind is a good idea, though, simply because you can customize the impedance; and the older ones were not as hot as they are now.

Before you do anything bypass the .0047 capacitor that cuts all of the bass and low mids from the bridge pickup. That may fix your problem.

The bridge pickup has a larger magnet.

FYI for those unfamiliar with this (I am not referring to you, Jaymi), you can't just remove the .0047µF cap, if you do you must replace it with a piece of wire or there will be no sound from the bridge pickup.

Thanks guys! So do I want to pull that cap or do that nifty 4003 mod? And is there a tutorial anywhere on pulling that cap properly??
