What I'm really GASsing for right now is a white 4001S or 4003S with chrome hardware and white pickguard/TRC.

Recently put a W/B/W pearloid guard on my 4003MG-looks sharp. Thinking about running a round-over router bit along the top so the square edge doesn't annoy my forearm while playing-anyone done this? My bass is for me to play so resale is not an issue. Just wondering if the binding will peel or just go along with the maple.

PS-can anyone tell me how to post to a thread without hitting the "Quote" button?

Hmm. Don't know how it looks in your setup, but I see a "post reply" button outside the lower left corner of the last post in a thread, and below that I also see a large box that says "Quick Reply," and within that box is Option to quote message in reply, and at the bottom "Post Quick Reply" and "Go Advanced" (don't know what that does).

I would be pretty concerned that the router might peel the binding out and make a real meas.

The binding would melt, so you'd need to remove it first, BUT, you'll have a step left all around the edge of the bass that can't be removed with that type of router bit. If you have one of the older 4001/3's with the larger upper and lower bouts, you can remove the step by simply routing about 1/16" off the entire perimeter of the bass. Then you could contour the edge like a 4001/3S model. You could do this with 4003's that have the smaller, vintage sized bouts, but it'll make them noticeably smaller.
