That is awesome. Very sharp looking.

Here is my latest 4003 in JetGlo. Factory fresh and free of cracks or neck warping problems! - I ended up returning my 2011 bass cause it just had too many issues to bother with!

Here's my 2001 4003 JetGlo beside my CIJ 2005 Geddy Lee Jazz. (Sold the red Aerodyne beside them a while back).

Awesome!

Everyone has got such nice guitars in here! :bassist: And thats a hell of a stack you got there too! :)

I wonder what the ratio is of 4001/4003 owners that also own Jazz Basses?

To me they have always gone hand in hand, since I have owned both together practically my entire professional musical life! You guys and I are obviously not from the camp that hates on one because we only own the other.

You know... as I often joke to friends.... My 64 Jazz sounds more like a Rickenbacker than most Rickenbackers do! lol! :D

Thank you very much. All of a sudden, I'm back to playing the Rics again.

Peer Pressure? lol! :)

Glad you are! I find that the Ric neck and fingerboard keep my fretting hand in shape! I like to jam a lot on my short scales, and you have to be careful that you don't get too spoiled by the easy stretch on the low side compared to something like a 4003. ;)

I was jamming on mine last night and remarking to myself how impressive the workmanship is on a well turned Rickenbacker! Really nothing else quite like it!

Couldn't agree with you more... I have a couple of 40-year olds that get equal playing time... Here is my 73 Jetglo 4001 and my 73 Jazz :D

Hey guys! some nice jetglo rick pron in here, thought I might possibly add to it?

I got this line on a 2011 jetglo deal but I thought I would run it past you guys in the know about this kind of stuff, this rick has paint coming off it on certain sections on the body. I will start by saying i play in a heavy stoner band, and I am not concerned about visual wear n tear on my instruments (but I dont bash them either) and my current Rick was a gift to me so it holds a strong place in my heart and I want another Ric option for times where taking my MID out might not be the best call. My main concern is whether down the line it would continue to the point where I will need to get a refinish on this bass? which I am not opposed to either just want to know if that is something I will be getting myself into at some point.

And here is a full scale shot of the bass just for the sake of it ;)

cheers

I had a 4004 in midnight blue that did the same thing. Because the bass had undergone some pretty big mods, RIC was able to snake out of refinishing the bass under warranty, and it was the first new Rick I had bought since 1978. So much for customer service. Anyway, this molting process will continue, so unless you like the look you're gonna end up with, a refin will be in the cards for ya.

WOW!

Those two are simply gorgeous Ron! And both right around the same production years that my original vintage 4001 and Jazz Bass were made!

72 and 76

Always nice to hear from someone that had better luck than I did in managing to hold onto such beautiful vintage guitars like these!

While my new 2013 4003 doesn't look as striking as my mint 1972 4001 did with that classic checked binding and deep rich ruby red Bubinga fingerboard, this new bass does have a similar neck!

Action is very even across all regions. no buzzing unless I want it to buzz by digging in. Basically, its very fast and silky and just feels RIGHT! You guys know what I am talking about! That smile you can't help cracking when you run through a scale on a properly setup and straight 4000 series neck/fingerboard! :bassist:

Sound wise, I am still messing around with that. I've got a brand new set of DR Lo-Riders on it, and I think it needs another several days of playing before the tone starts to balance out and you loose some of that new string tinniness and lack of mid bass and lower midrange definition.

I keep meaning to post a new thread to the attention of 4003 owners who also own the Fender Bassman 100t to get some tone stack number value suggestions for the active channel.

I've gotten spoiled by my AV 64 Jazz Bass and how instantly it sounds like a million bucks just plugging it into the vintage channel with everything flat! The 4003 is going to need some help I think, and the active channel should have enough aces up it's sleeve to get me smiling!

Figured it would save time having some tone stack settings from others to build off of, rather than starting from complete scratch. ;)

I always thought I wanted. a Jazz, but after I got my Ric my desire for new basses kind of waned. I have 3 basses but the Ric sees most of the action.

Some of you guys buy and sell basses like crazy; the only bass I ever got rid of was the cheapo short scale Kent I traded in to get my Westone. That was in the 80s.

I got a Geddy Jazz last year and have a permanently loaned Ric from a friend. I think the Ric is the best looking bass ever. Just personal opinion. But I have to admit my jazz plays easier to me. They have such a different feel.

For ME the jazz is better for finesse work and the Rick more for just simple rocking out. That's just me. If I had to only play one I'd probably go jazz. But I don't. I love having a few very different basses. But if finances change incould go down from 14 to 3-4

I own a couple of Jazz basses as well ... I'd like a Rick with this color scheme ... White, tort, maple ...

And this jazz is a real player ... I'd like a Rick that is striped like this.

And here's my newest Rick. After I took these pics I leveled the frets with a diamond file, I oil finished the fretboard, and I polished it with Zymol. So it looks even better.
