I don't have the bass in hand yet but I am getting this one next week. Its paid for just waiting for it to arrive. Made the 17th week of 2012 according to the rickenbacker website.

I have $35 left in my paypal account and I'm thinking of ordering a bezel. I'm not sure if I will take off the pickup cover but if I do I want to be ready and not leave that big gap. I usually play P-basses and anchor my thumb on the pickup so I'm thinking either the bezel with the thumb rest or the cove. Which do yall prefer for a better anchor point.

I'm kinda leaning towards the thumb rest cause its hard to tell from pics how deep the cove is. I'm thinking being used to the edge of a pickup that the rest will fit me better.

I'd say wait until you had the Ric for a little while and got used to playing it. I was thinking the same thing as you before I got my 4003 but held off from getting a bezel, and found out I had no need for one once I played it. The pickup cover is so cool, and you may not need to get rid of it.

My bezel makes mine über playable. Best 40 bucks I spent.

I never leave home without the cover on my bridge pickup.

Unless it's my Laredo.

I have the original bezel on my 4003 though I transitioned to floating thumb and don't really need it. I like how it looks, sort of makes that bit of the bass look more finished and doesn't look like an added on part imo.

I put the bezel with the thumbrest on my black 4003. If nothing else it delivers a clean look.

My MapleGlo I kept the pup cover on and it is my current main player.

I went with the cove and am pretty happy with it. It's very clean-looking and doesn't get in the way if you go floating thumb on it, but it's always there if you need it and it feels like having an extra string to rest on. Whichever version you choose it looks a lot better than leaving a gaping hole. I lived with the p/u cover for a few months until my first string change, then I put the bezel in to see if I like it, and I really don't think I"m going back to the cover, even though I love the look of it with all that chrome. Without the cover the bass just seems so much more natural to play finger-style on.

Thanks for all the input guys. I'm gonna wait and see how I like the pu cover first but I see myself getting one of these in the future.

I had Chris at Pick of the Ricks put the deluxe (thumb rest) bezel on when I bought my Ric from him a few weeks ago. Very happy I did.
