The right flatwounds for me?

HOLD THE BUS!
No one has mentioned the new Fender Flats, especially their new 9050CL set in 45-60-80-105. Great tone, great feel, consistent from string to string and up the neck, has a great growl like a subdued roundwound. Look up all the other threads on these strings. They're inexpensive to boot. I've played bass since 1976, and these are the strings that made me give up roundwounds. Versatile for any genre.

Even if you end up not liking them, they are inexpensive enough that the experiment won't hurt the wallet. And they just get better with age, with more growl. They don't thump out like just about every other set of flats does.

Rotosound jazz 77 flats. They are basically the same as the Steve Harris set but in a lighter gauge. I think they keep the bright tone for ages and have a nice growl to them.

I found the TI's were too low tension and quite thin sounding. I tried Chromes too but far too stiff and quite sticky feeling. But those are just my experienced with them etc...

This. I like them better than Chromes. I've also used TI flats, and found them to be very different beasts - further away from the roundwound sound, IME. But they are undeniably excellent (and expensive) strings :)

Well after some more string experiences I have to say I like the Chromes (CB82) set on my P with the BAII bridge.
I threw some Super Slinky rounds back onto the Fender American DLX P. Regular Slinky's work well on this bass too.

Edit: Actually I am back to the Regular Slinky's on my Amer. DLX. The Super's ain't cuttin' it.
