The same chord progressions again and again...

Nope, I never get tired of classic progressions like: I-IV-V, I-V-vi-IV, and the 12 bar blues.
vi-IV-V-I is pretty rampant these days. And yes, it gets tiresome.
yes i do. music can be so much more than just rehash....or atleast dress it up differently so its not so obvious thats it same old thing plz
yes can't stand it. too much music is diatonic and boring
I don't think it's the progressions so much as the actual song they're applied to.
Some songs I won't touch with a ten foot pole because to me they are so dull, generic and boring with crap lyrics.
Yet that same progression in another different song might be one of my favorites.

If you're going to play music, you better get accustomed to lots, and LOTS of repetition!
Yep, probably the reason why I wouldn't last more than a few days in a blues band.
Why don't you tell us which song has you all bothered at present?
A few days? I commend you for your strength.
That's why i don't write basslines like that for our bands music. However sometimes a simple and repetitive riff is what completely makes a song that you wish would go on forever (Papa was a Rolling Stone, Radar Love, etc)

This is where I am coming from. There's a lot more music in the rhythm and the nuance than there is in the plain old notes. And chords are just groups of notes. Get into the songs more.
An analogy: complaining about the same old chord progressions in different songs is like complaining that all the women you meet have the same old boring skeletons - clavicles, femurs, tibias - boring same old bones every time. There's a lot more to a song than just the chord progression - or at least there should be!
Despite many songs in my repertoire having similar, if not exactly the same, chord progression i'm pretty sure I don't have a single bass line for them that is similar....let alone the same. Each song has a different vibe which allows for some freedom to experiment.
If there is rhythmic interest, I will take the same progression.
Yea i kinda feel the same way. I want to learn more jazz and more about chord substitutions/extensions so the progressions sound different. Not so much a bass issue, but more for composing.
But yea it sucks to play the same progressions over and over. I cant stand hearing a I IV V, makes me cringe when i play it. I do think some of it is due to my limited capacity. I also want to learn more about melody, harmony, voice leading, composition, etc. Gotta start studying more classical music. I have a friend that can play the same two chords over and over and make it sound beautiful each time, so i think a lot of it is in the player.

In church, yes. If Hillsong learns one more chord, they'll know six of 'em!
If you mean current pop/RnB stuff, then most definitely. I think there's about 3 chord progressions being used right now in mainstream pop. Not to mention the fact that there's no real changes like bridges or choruses. Tedious to say the least . . .
I like it when the structure's a given, and it's what everyone does with it that gets interesting. So I don't mind standard chord progressions. Plus, they're used a lot for reason, they work. But I don't mind weird chords either. My favorite is to have a standard progression as a base, and then mess with it in surprising ways.
