If you are okay with a 7/8 sized bass made in China, I’d suggest checking out a Shen Gemunder. It can hold its own in an orchestra section or in a jazz context.

I’m trying to get a reason to make a trip to San Antonio as they have an authorized Shen dealer there. I have a good friend who has played a Shen for years and he loves it.

My NBD this year was a Shen. It’s working out quite nicely.
