I don't have any music stores locally to me. I'm thinking it may be the cabs though.
I think your cabs are just fine. Try the EQ change and the compressor.

I use TI's tuned a full step down with no problems.
Are you able to try different cabs? Maybe a 410 will be better for what you need?
Where are you located...geographically-speaking.....
That was my first thought, too. A switch to a smaller cab would require less time and air to push, hence, should sort your problem out.
I haven't tried a any other basses with my amp. But that's my only bass..and I love it with a burning passion. It may be the bass but I believe people have gotten big punchy tones from Rics before. (Geddy?)
I don't think I've tried sealed cabs before, I never thought of that. That's definitely an option.

This is about where I am on my PF-800 (I user the #3 with the mid at 2:00) and a little more bass like 1:30. I don't notice any "slowness" or unresponsiveness.I've got the bass at 11:00, mids at 3:00 or a little more, treble at about 1:00 or 2:00 depending on stuff.
I keep going back and forth between the 2nd and 3rd setting on the mid selector trying to decide which one I like better.
Well that's just cheating! but yeah that's sort of where I ended up after Rickenbacker, except mines a Doug Wilks copy with a sexy sliding Nordstrand pickup and an Aguillar pre.I suggest getting an Ernie ball musicman that would give you tighter bass
