The shoe thread!

Unfortunately, feet don't tend to improve with time. I need prescription orthotics, and have worn them for 15+ years.

For sneakers, New Balance in a very wide width is about all that consistently fits. I notice that once people turn about 30, a lot of them move from other brands into New Balance. I think they make some of the best athletic shoes in the business.

For regular shoes, I buy Dunham, which is made by New Balance and has a very good selection of widths. They also make shoes without leather or hard soles, which helps me. Florsheim does make some dress shoes with soft soles in wide widths, so for hard-core dress biz wear I have those.

I used to walk everywhere, now I can manage about two miles before I'm hurting to the point that I am ready to call it a day. Fortunately that's enough to walk 9 holes at most golf courses.

The moral of the story: don't wear flip-flops or cheap shoes!! Take care of your feet, because you get one set per lifetime.
