THE SHORT SCALE BASS THREAD!

It's been posted before, but here it is once more - the Birdsong Cortofusion prototype:

Soon (April or May) to be joined by Cortobass 7C-077X, in walnut/ebony/purpleheart fretless glory. Same body shape as the fusion, but with the 2-pickup cortobass configuration (2 volume knobs and a front-jack - no tone control knob or varitone). :eyebrow:

your Birdsong family is now growing!!! FANTASTIC !!!! its an addiction, you cant have just 1...think positive !!!!:hyper:

A few more. No mods, all original, OHSC.

That! Is a beautiful thing.
I have a 69 that I will eventually post.
It feels like it's gonna fall apart when I play it.
Once fretwinder parts actually came off at a show. I love it and don't want to perform any surgery at all. Although the frets were reshaped when I first got her. And she has been poorly repainted and fiddled with. She's FULL of MOJO!

I'm gas'n over those Birdsongs...

Do short-scale basses really help with wrist issues? I have a serious problem with my wrists. One of the bones that keeps the wrist from poping out of socket is kinda...missing.

This limits practice time to an half-hour before it becomes unbearable.

Teachers say's I'm using the right playing tech, so it's not hand placement.

I think I'm gonna run to the local musicstore and play a couple...

I can see how the fretwinder thing can happen if the
screw that is the 'axle' of the winder comes loose.

That is the original finish, no headstock breaks, no unusual wear.
I don't take it out of the house anymore, though.

I was going to put a Diarzio Model One pup in it years ago,
but fortunately got the 'If you want a different tone, get
another bass' lecture from my luthier. Best advice he ever
gave me.

I played that bass exclusively from 1975 to 2003.
Got my first 34 inch, A Burns Bison, right around
the time I signed up here. Then G.A.S set in.
The rest is history.

Here's my cool addition to this thread.... my second Birdsong that is due to be completed any day now. The control plate cover is due to get another coat of oil or two then it's time to string it up and get it ready to go. :hyper:

The entire top is from a single piece of ebony (approx 1" thick). Yes, even the lighter portions. :bassist: It's backed by blackwashed mahogany similar to what you see on the control plate cover.

"hey, u got the same hag as i got. how u like the feel of the neck?"

It took some getting used to - it's 1 1/2" at the nut which is more narrow than I prefer. I have another Hag neck from a '63 Futurama which will probably end up on the Kraftsman in that picture - it's 1 5/8" across the nut, an earlier version with the "globular" headstock.

When I got the HIIBN someone had put a pair of 5-string soapbars in it...

Sweet! It's about time someone got a Bird with 2 soapbars on it. I'm thinking of onw with the pups right next to each other and about 1.5 inches of nothing after the neck entirely made for slapping!
Anyway, I think you're gonna love your new Birdsong. If you have any means, I'd like to hear some soundclips when you have it!

"You have excellent taste"
Don't know if I'd go that far, but thank you.

"You need a Teisco, I say."
A Teisco was the first one I bought/sold from ebay when I decided to get a bass after not having one for a long time. Bass was my first instrument, but I switched to guitar and sold the bass so I'd focus on guitar. If the Teisco had had a better neck I'd have kept it. It was a 33 1/2" scale, but the neck was plywood and a little uncomfortable and unstable.
