I almost bought one, but since I play lefty strung righty the slanted bridge scared me off, I wasn't sure I'd get enuff adjustment for the intonation.

Ah, that would make a big difference... I found my bandmate's Bass VI to be really crowded on the fretboard.

Oh yeah, I am still waiting to get answers to a couple questions regarding scale length and string gauges, but apparently DiPinto guitars has made a one-off six-string bass version of the Galaxie guitar (so it had a vibrato unit!) for Los Straitjackets. They used an AllParts baritone neck and moved the bridge back. Chris D. said he can make one of these, or a baritone, for around the $850-$950 range.

By the way, I will start distributing club membership numbers once I get home later tonight. I also have a few photos of some unusual short-scale 6-stings to post...

I WANT IN!

I've been using my Hellcat VI in my band, tuned Db Ab Db Gb B E (and sometimes drop down to B and up in fourths). The hellcat manages great, even with the low tunings.

We play melodic hardcore, with only one guitarist, so it makes for a great oppurtunity to play lead lines and use the higher register of the instrument.

I know what you mean, when I played 6-string bass exclusively I was in a band with guitar,keys,violin,and drums. The 6-string bass helped out a lot, for instance I would sometimes play overdriven "chords" on the extra 2 strings while the guitarist played single-note stuff.

I know some people have 30-inch-scale instruments that were set up by the manufacturers to function as baritone guitars (i.e., tuned higher than E to E, with lighter strings). I would love to hear what those of you who have such instruments had to do to get them to function as basses (such as any issues with set-up, intonation, nut slots, bridge saddles, different string gauges, string ball ends, string length, etc.). I know with some instruments, all you need to do is swap out the strings with Fender Bass VI strings and adjust intonation and truss rod accordingly. But I know some instruments have other issues that need to be worked around.

I had a Danelectro baritone that I put bass VI strings on. From what I could find out the Dano bass VI and baritones were the same, it just depended on what strings you put on them. Strings for Fender Bass VI won't fit on Danos, the only strings I found that fit were for Jerry Jones basses (I think D'Addario). After I bought the Schecter Hellcat VI I put a Longhorn neck and bridge on the Dano and converted it to 4 string. The Schecter is much better.
