harald86, thanks for those pics and the review. Looks and sounds like you really scored! I'd get that neck pickup checked though - it's either way too low or there's something wrong with the wiring, it should be very full-sounding.
What's the control setup? I'm guessing that's a 5-way Strat switch (B/B+M/M/M+N/N)? And are those individual volume knobs, vol/tone/tone, or something else?

Hey all, just thought I'd pipe in in a thread that would have knowledgeable shortscale 6 string bassists in it. I've been looking to get a decent shortscale 6 for less than a fortune. I'm looking to spend around 1000 canadian on one, that'd be about 800 US. Are there any decent models in this price range? I'd be looking to tune it E - E, or EADGCF.
Schecter Hellcat VI. Very well-made and still in production. They run about US$550, I believe; I don't know how easy they are to find, but if you hunt around you should be able to get one.

The scale length is almost 30" but is it intended to be tuned to bass VI tuning or is it a dedicated baritone (A to A?)
From my experience the Dano baritones can be strung E - e with no problem. I did it on mine. It is an U2 body one, but it worked fine.

All the old Danos had 'em. One of my Jerry Jones Dano repros had it too, worked just fine.

I've been using this bass for most of my gigs as of late -- a Fender Custom Shop Bass VI. We have a blues/rock trio that plays a lot material by Cream, Hendrix, Mountain, etc. This baby really fills the bill like no other! I also have an MIJ version which is very similar except that the pick guard is red instead.

I've downloaded, listened, and liked what I heard. Good tunes, and a great sounding band. And, not forgetting, some very nice bass tones. Keep it up!
Thanks! They both sound very similar although I think the MIJ may have a little more bottom at times. It's hard to say unless I do an A/B comparison with the right amp. Also the bridge is definitely better on the MIJ as the CS uses a Jaguar bridge. I had to have mine worked on a bit to keep the strings from sliding. That said, the CS has a very clear sound that cuts right through the mix. My advice is to keep your MIJ regardless of whatever acquisitions your GAS leads you to; it's a wonderful instrument as well.Very nice! Is the CS much better than the MIJ/CIJ VI:s? Is it me or are all of these just pictures of guitars?
Well these are the Bass Guitar forums, not the Double Bass forums, so everything you see pictures of in the various threads here are guitars, whether they have 4 strings, 6 strings, or whatever.
But this particular thread is for short scale (30") basses that happen to have 6 strings.
Is it me or are all of these just pictures of guitars?
I have had people come up to me during a break after a set and ask "How do you get that bass sound from that guitar?".
