I just picked up a Douglas Semi-Hollow from Rondo. a 32" scale instrument with a tune-o-matic bridge.
The guitar has a nice, wide-ish neck (I will measure it later)
Tuner holes need to be filled and then drilled for 3-on a side tuners.

The Fender Bass VI strings are longer because they need to accommodate the trem unit.

Just pulled the trigger on the Hellcat VI from MF since PGS is out of stock, The model pictured on MF's site is the older Hellcat VI, so I'm not sure if what I'll be receiving is the 2012 model or not. No worries, though. I've been quite satified with the older model.

I saw a gorgeous Fender Custom Shop Bass VI the other day. Too bad I don't have $3K to spare! And it was in shoreline gold, too. Damn.

f not f#.
f# is what is used below b to extend a 5 string or an ultra baritone guitar.

taking b and e up a half step from what is standard on vi's creates consistent 4ths across the neck.

obvious plus is consistent fingering patterns across the range. That might not even be a plus if you have enough normal 6 string experience to expect the b,e aberration :)

obvious minus is inability to use standard guitar chord shapes.

I just got my hellcat friday and immediately tuned it eadgcf.
I'm noticing that my f is awfully hard to bend. Can't believe the half step makes that much difference though.

I must say the Seymour Duncan pups are great. They really makes the Hellcat VI sound closer to a Bass VI than the older model with the mini-humbuckers, and makes it look better too.

That's incredibly awesome! But....one begins to wonder why he didn't just buy n slightly retune a traditional bajo sexto haha same idea

+1 !!! It sure does! Schecter really got it right this time around. They actually implemented a number of the suggestions we made; great, single coil pups, treble bleed cap, separate on/off switches. Not bad. And all at the SAME price as the last version. Their goal was to replicate - more or less - the Fender Bass VI. Except for no trem they pretty much pulled it off quite nicely. And personally, I like a hard-tail so I'm fine with their choice.

It may. BUT...it's what "inside" that counts and the jury is still out on the 2012 MIJ Bass VIs that were just released on Japan - which come in white incidentally. That is, no real reviews have been posted yet. Just a couple of poorly done vids on YouTube. If anyone sees any...post 'em!

I had an sr700 Ibanez that I turned into a vi at one point and used lace buckers in that are designed for extended range response and the thing sound awesome! Natural grind to smooth swells and then twang all based on some control and physical attack. My money says that's a very nice beast
