No it's actually very nice. I just went a little nuts with the buying recently. I picked up a Burns Barracuda then this Eastwood. But I also have a new Lakland on order and the money for at least one of these VI's if not both should have gone towards that. It was an impulse buy. I wanted to see how the P-90s worked in a bass VI. The Lakland has 3 P-90s. They work very well by the way. They are louder, punchier and slightly more articulate than the Burns Tri Sonics. Although the burns has an insane amount of pickup combinations for different tone options. The neck is also slimmer both front to back and in width on the Eastwood. I can't keep both the Lakland is expensive. Still cheaper than a Fender CS VI but it's up in that price range. I have owned several US Laklands and the necks are incredible. Certainly the finest instruments I have ever owned. So I decided to keep the Burns and sell the Eastwood as the Lakland will cover the same ground since both have P-90s. Also having the nut upgraded to bone from plastic on the Eastwood made a big difference in the resonance and sustain. It's crisper if that makes sense. I will surely have one cut for the burns at some point.

Yes it is. They're expensive. My dealer asked me not to publicly quote the price he gave me. We have a good relationship and a long history so I have to honor that. But like any other new US Lakland they're in the 3k range. It was cheaper than a Fender CS Bass VI. Mine's Surf Green with a matching headstock and tort guard.

More info on the new Lakland VI....

Lakland tells me that it's now available for order. They've already made a few and have several more currently in production for other customers.

It ain't cheap. As mentioned, around the same price as a Fender CS Bass VI. MSRP (that no one ever pays) for the Lakland VI is US$4,400. You can order one directly from Lakland or through any of their dealers. The direct price from Lakland is US$3,520 + shipping. I imagine you might get a better price from a Net retailer or a local dealer. They are built to order. Build time is approx. 5 months. If you would want to order one directly from them, you'd need to put down a 50% deposit (US$1,760) when the order is submitted. The downside of all this is it won't be a stock item. You really won't be able to play one in a store and see if you like it - unless they ordered one on spec. Not sure if they even have a return policy (if you don't like it) as it is a built-to-order, custom product.

It uses the same body as their Decade bass, but w/ a 30.25" scale length. The pups are three P-90s. Ships with a GHS custom set of stainless rounds that go 100, 80,60, 45, 35 and 25.

Here is the video of it that was shot at the latest NAMM show...

You can definitely do better than that going through a dealer. Thanks for posting all that info kenstee. I was unaware of the string gauges. Pretty psyched that the low E is a 100. I assumed it would be the standard 95-25 set. The bassier the better as far as I'm concerned. That's what I didn't like about Jerry Jones Longhorn VI I owned and the D'addario strings for it. The low E was only an 84, not enough low end for me. I was also unaware that Lakland is now selling direct. Is that a recent post Dan Lakin change? When I ordered my Shorty Decade a few years ago they did not.

Debilitating GAS just came over me after watching that video. I really like the fact that they put P90s in it!

I can't really know yet but don't look at it that way either. I've owned three US Laklands they were far and above the best necks I have ever played. All stellar instruments. While I have not played a Hellcat I have played several other Schecter basses. None of them were in the same league as any of the Laklands. For me the money's worth it. That being said the 2012 Hellcat does give me gas. It looks really great. The new Jaguar single coils and individual pup switches totally change the instrument from last years model. You have to give Schecter huge props for listening to you guys and making their instrument better. Not many companies, especially at that price point would do that. But I have to resist. I have to pay off that Lakland. 3 1/2 months to go.

I'm sure the quality would be amazing. That said, personally, I'd be real nervous ordering a $3,500 custom-made instrument that I couldn't return. Especially with no user reviews posted yet.

BTW, the Duncan SJAG pups in the new HCVI are indeed KILLER! They really got this one right - and at a great price. No, it's no Lakland. But, at less than $600 who can complain. And you're right.....Schecter sought and then incorporated nearly every one of our suggestions. The specific PUPS though were "suggested" by Robert Smith for the UltraCure VI - who felt they had the best old Fender Bass VI vibe. It is very cool they used the same ones in the HCVI too.

Hi guys !

I never owned a "Bass VI" type bass but that monster seems really cool !
I have some questions:
-Do you plug in a bass amp or guitar amp ?
-The pickups are bass or guitar ?

Speaking of pickups, I just installed DiMarzio BC-1's in my Lindert VI, and they sound ultra awesome! It's the bassiest "guitar" pickup DiMarzio makes. They're humbuckers, so it's not the traditional single-coil twang, but I like this tone better for my purposes.

I'm going to regret this later, but I'm selling my Danelectro. I haven't been able to get a gig where I would use it at all and it has essentially sat in the case since I took these pics of it last November. So hopefully someone who will play it more will get it, because I just don't utilize more than 4 strings these days...
