I use orange oil and an old t shirt on all my bass necks.

The cleaning kits they sell at music stores work fine too.

If you want to really clean out the grooves in the wood, use with a toothbrush.

Could you explain the process you use? Step by step, type of cleaner.etc. I would appreciate it. The neck is not really that dirty but I want to keep it looking good..

Any furniture polish will do nicely. Not sure I'd want to clean out the grain.

Bad pic, but looks like a wenge/bubinga neck.


The serial number on the back of the headstock will tell for sure: if the bass was made previous to 2007 (or during that year) then the neck is wenge/bubinga. If it's a newer model, the neck is jatoba/bubinga.

Thank you, yeah it's an 06, I'm still trying to get it back into good shape. There's some debate going on whether my bridge is bent or just flat and not following the contour of the wood. The bridge is definitely not the style like on the new models

Neck "feels"great, it's awfully buzzy at times but I'm trying to work the kinks out. Neck is perfect and true, but yet I need to almost max out the saddles to get the strings to not buzz. but I do love the look and feel of the bass. I need to screw with intonation a little more and it should be good. I'm coming from a Schecter Stiletto studio 5 neck thru, so I think a lot of it might just be me not use to the new bass.

Fixed everything, the rods were cranked too hard, loosened them up, got them intonated and the strings lowered without buzzing(except the a string for some reason).

How's the bridge working out for you? I put some DR Marcus Miller on mine last night and had to tweak the B and E string. Not sure if I like stainless steel strings or not..have a rehearsal tonight so I am going to give them a fair shot..

Everything is back to normal and great. I swear by DR's, unfortunately I only had like $20 and had to buy d'addario for now. I'm probably going to get some ddt's because I like playing in drop c, sometimes even drop b#

A string always has to be the highest string on most of my basses. Glad you got the setup all sorted out.

I love the quilt maple, and it looks even better in your pics than the stock ones; I contemplated buying one (because purple is awesome) but ended up being turned off by the Ibanez pickups. Do they sound alright though? Just curious.
