Ill agree, these new colors would be better served with black hardware. On the natural models I think gold still works best since it blends with the body. The gold bridge on the blue one looks particularly out of place to me. Oh well, beggars can't be choosers and at least ibanez finally decided all basses over 1k don't have to be brown.

Yeah, I think black hardware would probably blend in better. I found myself thinking the same thing about the blueburst Spector Euro I had at one point with its gold hardware. Still though, great to have some color in my bass lineup again.

I also agree about a fretless. If the 1400 becomes a lasting favorite, maybe I'll pick up a Deep Rose one as well at some point and have one of them de-fretted.

Interestingly, I think my favorite sound so far is neck pickup soloed. Very throaty/grindy/P-Bass-esque (more so than the soloed neck pickup on any of my other basses). After putting on some DR Sunbeams, I recorded a few bars with it last night on that setting (on an alternate track in a Reaper session where I'd already tracked the bass part with another bass). Sounds great, sits in the mix a lot like a P. I was thinking at first that the open E string seemed to have just a little more airiness/harmonic content than I'm used to - but it's not really an issue and the E sounds just fine in the mix. I will say this is the most feather-light bass I've ever held - feels like it's probably less than 8 pounds.

I own the SR1200 VNF with the gold hardware and IMO it looks really nice, but I agree that on the blue one it should be black or chrome.

Just picked up a SR5000 (not sure if this is the SM or MM ) Prestige from the late 90's. It was kept in amazing condition - cleaned her, just put on a new set of Fodera nickels and set her up. It plays like butter!! Very happy with this find....

So, I'm trying to figure if this is the SM (Saman/Walnut) from '96 or the MM (Mahogany/Walnut) from '97....does anyone know how to read the serial number?

How would you compare the playability and tone of this bass to others in the price range? I've been wanting a used Prestige really bad but haven't heard any experiences from people who have played or owned them.

Well, I can't comment on this vs. the current crop of Prestige instruments, but THIS one is VERY NICE - that SR neck, great acoustic tone and a killer slap machine. The electronics are a bit polite (i.e., low output), but I expected this from the AFR/Vari-mid package. I may change out the electronics since my other basses are hotter, but I do like the sounds I can get from this one (just have to turn up the amp a little).

I used to have a '94 SR1305 (which I regret selling to this day!), so I've always liked the upper tier Soundgears.

BTW, got some US MK4 PUPs for my SR650PBAM, so once I get a new preamp (suggestions?) I'll report back...

OK so Ive had my new SR600 for three weeks and played it out six times,and it just keeps impressing me,I play straight through the PA cuz I have a very bad neck & back & I'm not dragging my amp back and forth multiple times per week, I have a sans amp & compression & I have used my sans amp just for the XLR no need to turn it on,I can get sweet tones that cut & punch, I have been told four times by separate people & the sound guy that it stands out and is really clear. that just makes my day. no more 50 shades of muddiness. thought I'd share that.

Oh yeah I like the look of that bass. I wish my new ibanez BTB would sale so I could grab this up. Love the look and the color combination on that beauty. Someone snatch the steal of a deal on my BTB so I can move on this lol.

That is one sharp looking bass - many congrats!!! I like it!

You don't like Elixirs? I think they're beautiful sounding strings, but they cost too much IMO even though they do last longer than uncoated rounds. All my SR's have Prosteels on them, and they are fairly inexpensive strings, but they start going dead after 2-3 months. I love bright strings on Ibby SR!


The only thing I don't really care for in the Premium SR5 series basses are the 2x3 headstocks ... I wish they had 3x2 like the standard models.
